MARKET SHARE ANALYSIS

The below master chart signifies the market share each manufacturer holds month-on-month (M-o-M)

May 2017: Two Wheeler Sales Figures & Analysis-6.-market-share-trend.jpg

What I have done below is, split the data manufacturer wise so that a clearer picture is given as to how much of their marketing and products influence the share month-on-month.

Re: May 2017: Two Wheeler Sales Figures & Analysis

Aprilia SR150 seems to be doing quite well, having settled to a figure around 2k. What's with R3 sales though?

Re: May 2017: Two Wheeler Sales Figures & Analysis

Interesting to see the flip in sales of Bajaj Dominar and KTM Duke 390.
Dominar drops from ~3200 to 882 while KTM picks up from 871 to 1713.

What's happening?

Yamaha has stopped selling R3 as they don't have a BS4 model yet. The news is that they might launch a BS4 model with ABS later this year though it's not yet official.

Apart from the engine, I don't think they have much in common. Their pricing is Rs. 1 lakh apart. I think the Dominar is affected by competition and cross-shopping. FZ25, Duke 200 and Duke 250 are all worthy contenders. Their brand and refinement are a notch above what Bajaj deliver right now.

Refinement is/was NEVER a factor. Case in point: Royal Enfield, Harley Davidson, Ducati, TVS Apache (160/180), Honda Shine.

By the way both the Royal Enfield brave new intiatives, the Himalayan and Continental GT scores "0" in May

I agree with you. Over the long-term however, Bajajs do have a reputation to lose engine refinement, and overall long-term reliability is low (this I hear from Bajaj owners and not first-hand experience). When shopping between a Yamaha, KTM (200,250) and the Apache 200, I think that it is a concern, especially over the long-term.
Royal Enfield will remain the outlier to everything i just said

Majority of the customer who is willing to spend 1 plus lakh on motorcycle is more concerned

1. How will he look on the vehicle,
2. How will the vehicle sound and most importantly
3. Will people NOTICE his new vehicle.

Axactly the reason why Royal Enfield lies outside to what you said... and also the reason why Honda had to discontinue the SMOOTH CBR 150R/250R.

Smoothness is just a concept to be discussed to death on internet forums
