Yamaha Nozza Grande scooter spotted testing in India

Yamaha appears to be working on a new scooter for the Indian market. A test mule of the same has recently been spotted in Chennai. While the Japanese manufacturer hasn't revealed anything about the upcoming model, the single spy shot that has surfaced on the internet shows that the test mule is similar in appearance to the Nozza Grande scooter that is on sale in markets like Vietnam.

The spy shot reveals that the rear styling of the new scooter is inspired by that of the Yamaha Fascino. However, the tail light cluster is an all-new unit with the indicator housing being separated from the stop lamp, unlike the Fascino's integrated tail light cluster. The exhaust pipe gets what appears to be a chrome heat shield, while the name of the model is hidden under a black tape. All these design cues look similar to what is seen on the Yamaha Nozza Grande.

In the international markets, the Nozza Grande is available with a 125cc, single-cylinder engine that develops 8 BHP and 9.7 Nm of torque. However, the source of the spy shot suggests that Yamaha was testing the scooter with the TVS Jupiter and Honda Activa 110, both of which were probably serving as benchmarking vehicles. This suggests that there is a possibility that the automaker might use the 113cc, single-cylinder engine from the Fascino, which develops 7 BHP and 8.1 Nm of torque.

Re: Yamaha Nozza Grande scooter spotted testing in India

Yamaha has four scooters on sale in India, and this would be the fifth.

The Ray - Targetted for female audience
Alpha - Targetted for male audience.
Ray ZR - For those who like Ray but are male.
Fascino - For classic looks and modern style.

Nozza Grande - More classic looks?

All of these scooters share the same 113cc engine, and now with the Nozza Grande - seems to be competing against their own Fascino as well! Pretty much confused what is the strategy here.

If this is the scooter, then I guess this is more an unisex, family scooter with very clean looks. Aimed more towards the 50+ crowd IMO. Personally, I quite look the way this looks compared to all the other 4 (no I'm not 50+ ).

Slight correction. The Ray and Ray Z have both been stopped and it is only the Ray ZR available for those who want it. Frankly Ray ZR is not at all pleasing to the eye IMO compared to the Ray and Ray Z. Fascino on the other hand is a good looking scooter. The Nozza looks like an evolution of the Fascino.

Re: Yamaha Nozza Grande scooter spotted testing in India

The scooter looks good, very Vespa like. Neutral styling will please most. However, if it comes with the puny motor on the Ray, then it will be a big dis-appointment. I had a 2013 RayZ, the styling was nice, brilliant handling for a scooter, smooth engine, but terribly under powered. Riding two up, the engine used to scream to pull!

Plonk a 125 or a 150 and you have an awesome machine here.

Re: Yamaha Nozza Grande scooter spotted testing in India

The Nozza Grande has bigger wheels too (12" maybe). This could be useful in replacing the steel ones currently being used on all Yamaha scooters.

The Nozza internationally has a 125cc FI engine so that seems a bit difficult to be incorporated into the Indian variant if they have stay competitive.
Or maybe they could use a carburetor on a 125cc engine and sell it here. They need a better performing engine now. I feel the 125/ 150 cc engine would be really useful.
