Re: Bajaj announces partnership with Triumph Motors!

mid-size bikes from Bajaj-Triumph are another 2 years away from launch.

The Triumph agreement is in its final stages of closure. The R&D teams of both companies are working together and there is a lot of exchange of data taking place.
We will close the agreement in perhaps another month or so, which is when we will have a clearer view about when the new Triumphs -- the ones which will be co-designed and co-developed by Bajaj Auto. I definitely expect it to take over two years for that to happen. -- Rakesh Sharma, Director, Bajaj Auto

Re: Bajaj announces partnership with Triumph Motors!

Exactly 2 years since initial announcement, Bajaj & Triumph are getting into a formal pact in next quarter. Wonder when will actual bikes roll-out from this partnership?

First Bajaj Auto-Triumph bike to be ready by 2022, agreement to be signed before December.
Quote:
It will take at least two years for the commercial launch of the first of several mid-capacity bikes that Triumph and Bajaj Auto are planning for India and global markets.

The two companies, who have been in talks for more than two years now, are expecting to sign a much-delayed formal agreement in December, a senior Triumph official told Moneycontrol on the sidelines of the EICMA event.

Steve Sargent, Chief Product Officer, Triumph Motorcycles, said, “We have been working with Bajaj (Auto) for a couple of years now and we are close to finalising an agreement with them. Our cooperation on product development has been progressing well.”
Product details
Quote:
Harley-Davidson is scheduled to launch its smallest and most affordable bike ever in China next year . This baby Harley will be powered by a 338cc engine and may come to India going forward. Triumph wants to challenge this baby Harley with the new range of bikes it is developing with Bajaj Auto. At present, the smallest Triumph bike on sale in India has an 800cc engine.
Sales and exports
Quote:
Bajaj Auto will handle sales in the Indian sub-continent and in some export markets where Triumph does not have a distribution network.

The products will also compete in other emerging markets like Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and South America. These bikes will be exported to the US, Europe and China as well. Bajaj Auto has been exporting India-manufactured KTM bikes to the US and Europe.

Triumph is looking to tap into Bajaj Auto’s strength in Africa, where it is the top two in every market it operates in.

Back in August 2017, Bajaj and Triumph said that they would be entering a global partnership. Now the companies have revealed that the press conference announcing this alliance will take place on January 24, 2020.

We’ll have to wait another week to find out what exactly the manufacturers have in store for us, but we expect the fruits of this alliance to be motorcycles in the mid-capacity range that will benefit from both Bajaj and Triumph’s collective strengths.

Triumph will benefit from a much wider global reach in emerging markets, especially in segments with higher volumes than the British brand is used to. Bajaj, meanwhile, will gain access to an iconic brand and the famed motorcycles that come from it. This alliance will help Bajaj to go upscale in a segment of more relaxed motorcycles than the brand currently produces, that will probably exist alongside (or perhaps higher than) the existing KTM Duke and RC family.

The obvious advantage for Triumph is in the access it gets to frugal engineering and low-cost labour – an area in which Bajaj has considerable experience. On the other hand, Bajaj could benefit from using Triumph’s vast expertise in developing a mid-capacity modern classic motorcycle, to take on the likes of Royal Enfield in the Indian market.

Re: Bajaj announces partnership with Triumph Motors!

Bajaj Auto formalises its partnership with Triumph Motorcycles, to introduce sub-Rs 2 lakh mid-size bikes by 2022.
Quote:
Mumbai: Bajaj Auto and UK based Triumph Motorcycles have formally announced a non-equity long term partnership to introduce mid-size motorcycles for India and the global markets. The first model will hit the roads in India in 2022 and it is likely to be priced at sub 2 lakh rupees.

The models from the partnership will be available only under the Triumph brand and not Bajaj Auto. The duo will come out with a range of bikes under a new engine platform (200 cc to 750 cc engines).

The new bikes will be produced at Bajaj Auto's factory in Chakan, Pune and it will shipped to all major markets around the world. With this partnership, Bajaj Auto is eventually take charge of Triumphs distribution in India as well.

The Triumph Bajaj collaboration will combine strengths in design, technology, cost-competitive manufacturing and an intimate knowledge of key target markets to deliver a range of production, stated the company in a statement.

Nick Bloor, CEO of Triumph Motorcycles said, "This is an important partnership for Triumph. As well as taking our brand into crucial new territories, the products that will come out of the partnership will also help attract a younger, but still discerning, customer audience and is another step in our ambitions to expand globally, particularly in the fast growing markets of South East Asia, but also driving growth in more mature territories like Europe."

In other key overseas markets, where Triumph is not currently present, Bajaj will represent Triumph and offer the new mid capacity bikes as part of the full Triumph line up.

In all other markets, where Triumph is present today, the motorcycles developed together from this partnership will join the current Triumph product portfolio and be distributed by the Triumph led dealer network worldwide. 'This will truly unlock the potential on a global scale,' the company said in the statement.

Re: Bajaj announces partnership with Triumph Motors!

One wonders whether this partnership will result in the launch of bikes that will compete directly with Royal Enfield products, both in terms of engine size and price, in addition to fuel efficiency and power.

If so, it might also make Royal Enfield pull up their socks, literally, and improve build quality, which has been a grouse held by RE owners (me included) for long.

Bajaj has got new OEM's in India and made them successful. This too looks promising. Waiting for the new developed bikes by these two giants when I am drooling over the new 2020 Street Triple RS.

According to a media report, the first bike developed by the partnership between Bajaj and Triumph is on track for launch in 2022.

According to Shoeb Farooq, Business Head - Triumph Motorcycles India, the coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent lockdown is not expected to delay the launch of the bike.

Bajaj Auto and Triumph Motorcycles had formalized their partnership in January 2020. The two brands are collaborating to develop a new range of mid-capacity bikes in the 200-750cc segment.

The report suggests that the new models will have the look and feel of a Triumph. Performance and rideability is also expected to be at par with the British brand.

The new range of bikes will be sold through Triumph dealerships. Prices are likely to start from under Rs. 2 lakh in India.

Re: Bajaj announces partnership with Triumph Motors!

Bajaj should acquire the Triumph brand, lock stock and barrel. It may even come to that stage in the current economic scenario.

That's not easy. Triumph is not like Norton or Harley which was struggling. And Bajaj has no clue how to handle Triumphs business across the world so it would be a horrible investment by Bajaj buying into Triumph. So the current arrangement works well as Bajaj hopefully can get some engine technology from Triumph which will allow it to launch multi cylinder bikes in future.

Re: Bajaj announces partnership with Triumph Motors!

If Bajaj does acquire Triumph, then it would be BECAUSE it's a well run company with good products, reputation and prospects.

That's why I personally think that the Norton acquisition by TVS was a mistake because of the same things that Norton lacks. The brand has lost the value that it once had because of many years of mismanagement under various owners. TVS will need to spend a lot of money to make Norton a success once again. That, by the way, is how Triumph itself was rescued by John Bloor in the early nineties thanks to his passion and his deep pockets. The question is, will TVS go to equal lengths with Norton?
