Re: Rumour: Mahindra has decided to quit the mass market two-wheeler category

When their volume sellers were selling less than the niche's its not very hard for a manager to say that they are abandoning the market. The truth is there was no market and that their products were just not good enough. Superfluous features instead of plain old good engineering, their two wheeler products are shoddily built and not reliable. No wonder the masses abandoned them. Good riddance I would say.

My 2 Cents:

Most of the effort seemed to have gone into searching for names ending with "O".

To Summarize:

Just acquiring the Jawa/BSA brand doesn't guarantee success. A brand in only as good as the Product. Eg: Zen - Original a hit in India/the later-estilo Flop, Baleno - Original a flop but the latest a Hit

What Mahindra Clearly and Obviously needs are guys at the top, who understand and LOVE (If not RIDE) 2 wheelers/motorcycles. Not just MBA-Executives in suits who would rather want to Drive in a Merc. than ride a 2 wheeler/motorcycle.

This is slightly confusing. Mahindra has now launched an 'RS' version of the Gusto Scooter.
The special edition comes with dual tone paint options - Red and White, Blue and White. It is a gimmick at best, very similar to the Maruti Swift RS.

Might be to empty all their inventory before closing shop! One might get to see some discounts too in sometime if they are unable to sell them.
