We own a 22 year old Hero Honda Ambition which has now started to become heavy for my Father. He never asks for anything but recently spoke about replacing it with a scooter for near about rides. Coincidently his birthday is in the next month and I would like to gift him a scooter.

Personally have shortlisted:

1. Bajaj Chetak EV (His first any kind of vehicle was a Chetak!)
2. TVS iQube (Maruti Suzuki Wagon R of the scooter world)
3. Ather Rizta
4. Ather 450x

Or should I stick to the utilitarian Honda Activa and Jupiters?

I feel the Chetak EV would be the best buy for your father but it is the heaviest of the lot, the Chetak Premium with TecPac weighs 134 kg, but the scooter is solidly built and reliable. You have 3 options with the Chetak now, the 2901, the Urbane and the Premium, you can choose the one according to your needs.

The iQube feels the most like a petrol scooter and it's a good thing, the switchgear is exactly where you want it to be and the scooter has almost all the boxes covered, be it space, features, variants and price. The only issue is that it comes with a hub motor, which isn't the best considering the other options.

Among the Rizta and the 450X, I would recommend the Rizta, but it has a waiting period and I doubt if you could get it on time, If you can, it is perhaps the most utilitarian of the scooters with the largest seat in the segment, a large footboard, loads of storage space and offers a variety of features as well.

Overall if weight is not an issue, the Chetak stands out for its excellent build quality, pricing, and nostalgia factor as well.
