re: Royal Enfield unveils Interceptor & Continental 650 with new twin-cylinder engine. EDIT : Launched

The reliability and product quality are the biggest question marks which RE must try to wash of their forehead with this product. However, what they bring forward with this first iteration may just set the table for a better product in future (similar to Himalayan). But I hope I am wrong.

Discussions on my WhatsApp groups are buzzing with excitement about it, and few of them are seriously considering the interceptor. Now everyone is educated about 'twin cylinder' and 'refinement' it brings and wants to own one.

But all things aside, the engine looks fantastic for the characteristics its showing. Probably enthusiasts could pick it up and customise it to create a hell of a reliable tourer out of it!

Global launch live now from the US;

We should get an idea of the pricing in India.

re: Royal Enfield unveils Interceptor & Continental 650 with new twin-cylinder engine. EDIT : Launched

Pricing in the US market starts from $5799 for the Interceptor to $6749 for the GT with variants in between depending on the colors.
For comparison, the Classic 500 ABS is $5500.

Are we looking at 2.5lakh ex-showroom for the Interceptor? It will be absolutely killer!
My personal belief was that it would be 3.5 ex-showroom.

Wow! Not bad. Brilliant pricing atleast in the US. Makes the 500 sound so obsolete.

The Royal Enfield Interceptor & Continental 650. EDIT: Launched @ Rs 2.50 - 2.65 lakhs-screenshot_20180926083736.png

re: Royal Enfield unveils Interceptor & Continental 650 with new twin-cylinder engine. EDIT : Launched

The prices for the US Market have been revealed for the twins.

The Classic 500 ABS retails for about 5500 USD in the US. So this should and will translate to a killer pricing when it launches in India. The first batches of shipment will be going to North America, where it sells with 3 years and unlimited Kms warranty, whereas for India it will be 3 Years and 40000 Kms warranty.

Its high time that I start saving for the Interceptor.

Don't think so, It will easily eat up the Classic 500 sales. I am expecting between 3 to 3.5. For a 650, the pricing is super killer for sure.

Agree with your view. An estimated 3.5 lakhs OTR might be what we are in for. And if build quality feedback is positive, there would surely be an Interceptor parked in my garage by late 2019.

Are we missing something here?

Maybe the price tag for the Classic is the MSRP; the actual on-ground pricing might probably be much lower with some discounts given (which is pretty common for the cars atleast). Anyone who has purchased a RE could help quantify this.

Else this is brilliant pricing; even though business logic says RE will price it around 3.5L; logically the price should around 2.7L - 2.8L OTR.

I couldn't be happier about the pricing in US. I understand that they can sell the custom variants in US without much issues like India. So RE has GT going up to $6750 and they expect a lot of people to go for customs and chromes (can't stress enough on America's love for chrome). But in India only difference in variants comes in color options - and chrome can't be priced too far from other colors. So, I'm guessing around 3.5L OTR and if it turns out to be true, I should book one by the end of next year.

1 year should be enough for RE to fix all the initial niggles (if any) and it should also be enough for me to convince at home that an additional Enfield is not a greed but more of a need

Really hope the 650 Twins is a commercial success in India. It will set a new precedent in India.

Pricing is key here. Should be between INR 2.5-3.5 Lakhs. If its priced above 3.5 Lakhs then don't think there would be much demand for it in India.

Dream price for me would be INR 2.5 Lakhs.

re: Royal Enfield unveils Interceptor & Continental 650 with new twin-cylinder engine. EDIT : Launched

The Autocar and OD articles indicate that the Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp Tires are tubed and non radial. Is there any other motorcycle in this segment giving tubed and non-radial tyres?! I checked on Revzilla and Pirelli's sites and they indicate a "0° steel belted radial carcass construction". The same tires are also used on the XSR700 which is known to have tubeless tires. What gives?

re: Royal Enfield unveils Interceptor & Continental 650 with new twin-cylinder engine. EDIT : Launched

Superb pricing and very very tempting!
I may just get back RE with interceptor 650, provided the quality is good. No hurry this time as i personally dont see any specific need for this bike, except having a torquey low revving retro styled twin in the garage for one of those lazy sunday breakfast ride types. poormans bonnie for sure!!

re: Royal Enfield unveils Interceptor & Continental 650 with new twin-cylinder engine. EDIT : Launched

For all the hoopla about Quality, no reviewer seems to have spent time or effort giving a detailed analysis of the same. Just one or two lines here and there, and a woeful reminder that similar coverage happened with the Himalayan. Why don't these fellows have their ears to the ground, and tailor their reviews towards what people actually want to know?

The price to performance aspect looks to be unbeatable going by reviews so far. At 3L OTR, this would seriously make a dent in the Indian market. Time to purchase those Eicher shares maybe?
