Probably true. Though Honda India could probably pull it off. The keen anticipation in a Himalayan twin shows the market's ready for such a bike, if not for premium Hero offerings.

If they'd done the 225 Impulse five years ago, maybe the story would be different by now.

Not to stray too far OT, but what ever happened to this Bulldog anyway? One article I read about it suggested it was attempting to go head-to-head with RE Himalayan, GS310, upcoming KTM Adv, etc. After that, silence...

re: Hero teases small adventure bike. EDIT: It's the XPulse 200

Am I the only one who feels that the bike sits way too squatted for something that's called adventure? Also, the Ex-Impulse has a cradle type frame and the Xpulse has stressed member engine.

Anticipation? Where?

Only across online Forums and in Auto Magazines I guess. Since the Industry (SIAM) numbers hasn't shown the same levels of excitement (for the Impulse/Himalayan/Continental GT).

re: Hero teases small adventure bike. EDIT: It's the XPulse 200

Any updates on X-pulse? testing mules? launch speculations, anything?
At times i feel if hero missed a trick by creating an entirely new bike with just a 50cc increase in displacement. Could have tried this with Impulse itself with a big bore kit, and ABS thrown in. That bike has proven itself with frame geometry, suspension, etc.
and if they had to create one from scratch, 25bhp, 150kg would have suited the cause better.

Finally one news article -

Masson said, “If you look at the premium market in India, 70 percent is below INR 100,000. So this is why first we are concentrating on bringing the Xtreme 200R and the XPulse 200. We are looking first at this segment because from a volume standpoint, this is the biggest.”
Thats a very aggressive price. Not bad!

How does a low saddle height compromise off-roading ability?
I felt that lower saddle height = lower center of gravity = more stable vehicle.

Ground clearance may become an issue but does lower saddle height really imply a lower ground clearance? Not necessary.

Hero teases small adventure bike.. again!

EICMA 2018: Hero XPulse 200T Unveiled

Hero teases small adventure bike. EDIT: It's the XPulse 200-lc38ojb4_heroxpulse200t_625x300_06_november_18.jpg

Hero MotoCorp has unveiled a new motorcycle called the Hero XPulse 200T at the EICMA motorcycle shown in Milan, Italy. The XPulse 200T is a new model based on the 200 cc platform that already has the premium commuter, the Xtreme 200 R, and the adventure tourer, XPulse 200, which will be launched together with the XPulse 200T in early 2019. The XPulse 200T has been positioned as a "Tourer," according to Hero MotoCorp. The bike has been designed keeping in mind the practical requirements of a touring motorcycle, with focus on ergonomics, and loading capability with its large luggage plate.

The XPulse 200T is powered by the same 198 cc, single-cylinder, two-valve engine that is shared with the Hero Xtreme 200R. On the Xtreme 200R, the engine puts out 18 bhp at 8,000 rpm, and 17.1 Nm of peak torque at 6,500 rpm. Unlike the Xtreme 200R though, the XPulse 200T will be more feature-rich. In addition to LED lights, front and rear, the XPulse 200T will also feature single-channel ABS, and a full-digital speedometer with Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation. Clearly, with the new range of 200 cc motorcycles positioned more as affordable, yet premium products, Hero has set its eyes on volumes in the rapidly growing 200-400 cc motorcycle segment.

The four custom motorcycles - a Cafe Racer Concept, a Desert Concept, a Scrambler Concept and a Flat-Track Concept - have all been designed and developed on the XPulse 200T platform. Hero will launch a voting contest, and the concept which gets maximum votes, will go into production. The different concepts could also see production based on specific needs and demands of variants to focus on specific customer needs and Hero's global markets. The concepts, built in collaboration with global design houses, may also be used to grow Hero's accessories division, aimed at providing the customer more customising options.

re: Hero teases small adventure bike. EDIT: It's the XPulse 200

Looks very good IMO. Only thing that puts me in doubt is the power figures. If it is 18bhp, then it is too low to munch miles as a comfy tourer. At least 23 to 24 bhp will do the trick. A very potent design though. Exiting times ahead to adv segment.

re: Hero teases small adventure bike. EDIT: It's the XPulse 200

As far as touring goes this X200T doesn't seem to offer anything worth considering over the Xtreme 200, though I'm glad to see that they've put the ZMA's fuel tank design to good use and undercut the use of plastics.

Am on the lookout for a 200 CC bike which can give a comfortable ride for my wife sitting in the pillion, with both legs on one side. This seems to be a good option. Waiting for launch and initial reviews.

Man, why are they dragging this thing out for so long?! Now a vote to select the model that they will put into production?! What is this? Indian Idol?!

Hero, just plonk a much more powerful engine into the old Impulse, factory fit it and finish everything and release the bike already!

What bothers me is that the concepts including the Xpulse shown at the 2018 Auto Expo doesnt appeal in terms of looks.. looks rather ameturish attempts in my opinion

Hero has always been doing that. After the Splendour, the CBZ and early ZMA's. I dont think they did much. And most even these 3 was when they were with Honda.

Impulse, after getting step motherly treatment from Hero for all these years, has truly become ex-pulse of the market now!
The bike starts off with an "expel" note. Wonder how far can it go ? and if that wasnt enough. "X-pulse" sounds like a take-off on "Pulsar"

re: Hero teases small adventure bike. EDIT: It's the XPulse 200

Hero has been well and truly caught napping while the rest of the game has moved on. More variants of an already lame engine with a 50cc big bore isn't going to cut the mustard anymore. At best I see this as a good alternative commuter to other bikes in the same category solely due to taller suspension.

Pitching this as a tourer is laughable and hero must stop embarrassing themselves.

TVs, bajaj , RE and now even mahindra has moved the goal post further while Hero wallows in their splendor/passion sales success..But for how long?

Forget the Japs..They have nothing to prove here. It's a race between Indian manufacturers to show their engineering might and Hero has been well and truly punted off.
