Sadly, no. But honestly, I didn't really look hard enough. My service centre and local parts store didn't really get what I was trying to do, then I sort of just gave up :p
Hey Aragorn, any luck? |
Hey Guru - I have mostly given up on the idea of changing the front sprocket. I am instead considering the 42T sprocket from XPulse 200T 4V. This version was launched along with the BS6.2 upgrade last year.
I have asked my local dealer to source it so that I can check the fit. Only caveat is that I would have to buy the full kit - front, rear sprockets and the chain.
Will keep you posted.

I wonder if the 14T from the Pulsar 220 would fit. Seems like it might.

It does look like it might. The shape of shaft matches, but I'm not able to find the actual diameter of the sprocket. I faced the same issue last time. The Duke 200 also had a 14T sprocket that matches in shape. Only way to find out is trial and error I guess.

Hey Guru - I located a spare parts dealer online who is selling the 42T rear sprocket separately. Check this link for more details:

It should reduce the engine speed at 100 kmph by 400-450 rpm. Do try it out if it helps.
As for me - my machine seems to be running very smooth at 100 kmph after switching to fully synthetic oil (10W30 grade). Hence, I am mostly giving up the idea of fiddling with the sprocket sizes.
PS: This is not an endorsement of this seller. Just a friendly suggestion to a fellow rider!

Well Hero seems to have heard you and worked hard to prove all of you wrong.

I just wish they launched the 450 dakar bike though lol!

If I was someone big in TVS, I would be wondering why my Team was sleeping and not doing these 2 things.
TVS has a RTR 200 based dirt bike (road legal) and the Dakar Bike. I seriously don't know what they are waiting for.
In the early days of motocross TVS and Yamaha were the 2 main contenders. TVS with the Fiero based bike and Yamaha with the RX100 based bike. In the larger displacement categories Yamaha used imported bikes and TVS built their own with an engine from an Italian manufacturer. I wonder if any of those bike are still surviving.

Spot on.

It's an entry level dual sport for sure, but it's a very capable one at that.

Basically a road legal dirt bike. Something I always dreamt of during my early days of riding.

It's actually really well-designed.

Could do with the following:
- Simpler graphics or something well designed.
- Better looking exhaust.
- Better tail unit.
- Better headlight.
Lots of people have already done these mods. Hero can easily give these from the factory.

The fix for that used to be a Fiero / Apache engine with the 180 block (something I did on my Fiero too). The mechanic who did my bike used to prepare Impulse's for Motocross and all had the Fiero engine. Later the Karizma engine became a simpler swap.

- Remove the entire god awful butt ugly tail piece with a very small sexy tail tidy (Havent bought the bike but have already bought this LOL)
- De-sticker the thing... completely!

Every X-Pulse owner should do this on day 1.

- Xpulse, engine mods, exhaust etc + Rally kit OR
- Impulse, Karizma engine + Rally kit

Option 1 is a no brainer.

So the smart money today is to bid the Impulse farewell and move on to the new hardware.

And I just saw that's your view too.

This is something I really want to do. And like it was mentioned, instead of aftermarket kits, I'd want to take something from the Hero / Honda parts bin if it's a direct fit (like I did for my Fiero).
Anyone knows if the Karizma Block is a direct fit?
I dropped by at the Hero showroom yesterday and checked out the normal and pro versions. The pro version with the stock seat was high. Had to tip toe or use 1 leg. I wonder how it will be with the rally seat.
They only had the stock version for a test ride so took that. Bike was smooth and easy to handle. Since I'm using a Himalayan, I found the X-Pulse underpowered but nimble and easy to ride.
The test bike was dirty (mud everywhere). The tank had blackened moss on it. Probable parked in the rain during the monsoons and never cleaned after that. Except for the ABS light that was on, the bike seemed to be fine.
Not so keen on putting in close to 2L for a new bike and then spending mods (MX style rear fender, full system exhaust, KTM style headlamp). Looking out for some cool deals on the 2V in the used market.

Well, do bear in mind the comment you quoted re: ₹1 lakh being a lot was from 2017, so the economic situation was a little different. A lakh seems dirt cheap now.
To answer your final question, no, the Karizma block won't fit, and even if it did it won't help, as the ZMA bore measurement is SMALLER than the very "oversquare" XPulse's!!!
As for my own project, I finally imported a 200cc big-bore kit for the Impulse. Cheap and presumably Chinese, so let's see how it works.
As an option, I also have rebored the original cylinder to 160cc and fitted the Ambition piston, which is a flat-top vs. dished and will give me much higher compression ratio, useful in compensating for the thin Himalayan air at our typical altitudes.
Yet to find time to re-assemble, and as the XPulse 4V gearing gives a much smaller 1-2 gear ratio gap, am planning to order the 2nd gear set - which local Hero tech assures me is a direct fit. My only complaints with the Impulse were the anemic power and those ratios, so this should hopefully get me where I want to be.
As for the 2V 'Pulse, a friend here picked up a very nice one with under 10k kms done iirc, and SS exhaust for ₹65k. A great runner.
Coming to TVS, rode a Ronin last evening finally, and found it an absolute hoot... power right where/when we need it for a dual-sport/ Scrambler. They really need to put that engine into a good chassis and let us all be enterained.
-Eric
What's the going rate these days for a 2V done anything between 15-20K Kms. See a few on sale but most are quoting over a lakh. There are a also quite a few 4V variants also on sale.
Once the 210 or whatever gets launched I'm sure prices will drop further.
