If I was in the mood, I would go for Xpulse 200 (spoked wheel version). The other one looks as confused as the Dominar : Street fighter or Tourer

If they are going to be priced at 1.15L ex-showroom, must say these bikes have got a lot more expensive. I mean, apart from ABS and a digital display, what extra tech does this bike have compared to commuters like Unicorn to be priced at such a premium ?

Among the two the one with Spokes get FI and the one with Alloys get a Carburetor.

This is as stupid as decisions go per me, but then I find solace in the fact that Hero gets their alloys from Enkei and they're known to put Spokes to shame when it comes to durability, in spite of the crazy high price of around 5k per alloy.

Cheers,
A.P.

What a weird decision. Won't they get economies of scale if they picked the EFI systems for all the models. Really daft decision...

Actually the carb is much cheaper. I dont know what throttle bodies they use and who they source it from. Keihin is very highly rated as honda uses them in the CRF250. I dont know too if the FI system is fully developed inhouse or if it is sourced from someone like bosch for instance. Those things add up costs.

The carb however is probably completely built in house by Hero. Also helps them keep both bikes well apart in terms of what's inside and outside.

No such item like a Carb or a FI system is ever made in house by any company in the world. They are purpose built for particular models with slight change but never in house.

Vendors for carbs like keihin and Mukini and for EFI such as Keihin, Bosch, Magneti Marelli etc. are used. they have dedicated plants to supply to the principle manufacturer but are always outsourced.

Infact for each specific component a specialist vendor is used. Like for axles there is Dana Spicer in India. For Suspension there is Gabriel and endurance and munjal showa. For brakes there is Bybre which is brembo and Kalyani Brakes(KBX). Kalyani also supplies crankshafts to almost all known companies in the world. AC has another supplier. Electrical harnesses has a different supplier. It is the amalgamation of a huge array of vendors and companies which we see in each and every vehicle on road today.

Being earlier in the manufacturing side and now in the sales side, I have seen it all and it gives a very different perspective to our manufacturers etc.

Good to have you continue to weigh in here. Am also happy to see you root to have this in your garage.

Since the engine is honda derived (can we say that?) i hope the fi system is from keihin along with the throttle bodies. If honda uses these guys, they must be doing something right.

I will contact you for the workshop manual if everything goes right down here

There is one thing going for these Hero motorcycles - customer interest. Sure, it is nowhere near the sky high levels of the Royal Enfield twins but I genuinely sense interest in this affordable entry level (relatively speaking!) off roading option. If nothing else, at least Hero will have enthusiasts walking into their showroom and test riding the bikes, if not booking one.

I have a feeling that it will do will in the enthusiasts circle as off roading is increasingly becoming a popular option, helped no doubt by the fact that the investments in exploring off road destinations are not required. Just head out of your city and off the beaten path. In comparison, experimenting with and getting into say track riding is a lot more expensive proposition and track days are few and far between.

The sub Rs 1.15 L prediction from TBHPian surjaonwheelz is a tad higher than what I would hope. I feel having both options below the crucial Rs 1 L ex showroom price will be a big mental battle won on the price front. But as surjaonwheelz correctly mentions, they dont have any competition at this price point so they have the freedom to price it as they wish. I hope Hero does well with this, their Indian rivals have invested heavily in R&D over the years and the fruits of their labour are well known. Hero in comparison is stuck with the tag of being a stickering company, this could be the first big step for them to move out of their own shadow.

Nothing like weighing in here. Just a post to clear how automobiles in general are manufactured.

And of course the point that I had been asking the company for a few left over impulses when I started my own dealership. Because of the sheer fan following it has in my town and surrounding areas.

Almost all of my superbiker friends now want one because in their opinion it's the cheap reliable offroader they can bash around and fix it for cheap in case things do go south. So I've been getting messages on messages for making sure the first few off the truck are handed to those friends. Maybe I too will be fighting for one from my own truckload of Xpulses.

And ofcourse I'll provide the backup for all here on Tbhp. After all I'm a Team-Bhpian before I became a Dealer.

Ive seen a lot of people mention that one bike is fuel injected while the other is not. Overdrive reports that the engines in the Xpulses will be fuel injected.

Quote:
The XPulse 200 and 200T will be powered by the same 200cc engine that you get in the Hero Xtreme 200 R. However, the motor in the XPulses is fuel-injected and produces 18.4PS and 17.1Nm.

Autocar India reports the same as well.
Quote:
As we reported earlier, the gearing will be different and the engine on the Xpulse will be fuel-injected, unlike the Xtreme 200R’s that only comes with a carburettor, for now.

In the video/photo of the Spoke'd variant you'd see a Lambda Sensor on the exhaust manifold, which indicates that the motorcycle is fueled by FI.

In the video/photo of the Alloy'd variant you'd see a 'Choke' pull-switch on the right-side handlebar indicating that its fueled by a Carburetor.

If that doesn't cut it, here goes the official spec sheet.

Hero teases small adventure bike. EDIT: It's the XPulse 200-img20190501wa0005.jpg

The 200T does come with a 32mm Carburetor.

There will be 2 variants of this motorcycle. The 200T model you see with the alloy wheels and smaller tires has a lower seat. The regular 200 with wire-spoke wheels and rally-spec 21-18 inch tires is the real deal. That one will come with the taller suspensions and will have a seat height where I can feel at home.

Edit:
Even at 823mm, it's still lower than the impulse's 835.

I'm having second thoughts after looking at the curb weight. 154kg is heavy. I'd prefer the feather-weight Yamaha XTZ for off-road fun and use some other motorcycle for touring.

The suspension specs read insane! Also the dimensions ar different between the two bikes, possibly because of the rake and trail. Looking forward to how it rough roads.

Width is more i think because of the over extended wider handle bars on the offroad variant.

Also range is confirmed at 500 km (dte) on a full tank of 13 litres from the console reading. Thats about 40 kmpl. Bit low for this engine isnt it?

Masterstroke by Hero with regards to variety and pricing!

The upside is that the Spoke'd version is available in both FI and Carb whereas the Alloy variant is only available in Carb.

Now lets just hope the auto-illiterate public opinions doesn't deem this a failure.

Getting really tempted to exchange my 6 year old Apache 160 for either the Xtreme 200S or Xpulse 200T. Worth being an early adopter, you think? Or makes more sense to buy after 6 months or so, once the initial batch gremlins have been addressed?

Edit: Though not a new entry, even the Xtreme 200 seems to be a good option wrt being a VFM bike.

The 200T is carb only. 200 is carb and also FI.
