I am getting very optimistic about the BMW 310's pricing, now that the price of Apache is revealed.

Re: TVS Akula 310 unveiled

I believe most of the images on the TVS website of the bike in red are slightly misleading as it is not of the complete production ready bike. The bike in black looks to be the one we will be getting.

The major difference are the mirrors, the rear tail portion, monoshock protector etc.

Re: TVS Akula 310 unveiled

Excellent product IMO as everyone else mentioned, I feel it is priced a bit too close to the RC390 and should ideally have been 15-20k cheaper. That said, this ought to appeal a LOT to the folks out there who hate the RC390 for various understandable reasons; aggressive ergos, poor quality, small tank, reputation etc. The TVS seems to offer much better build quality, fit and finish looks much better than my RC390 right off the bat, the clip-ons are pretty raised so not sure why people are complaining about the race bred nature (that is all just marketing speak let TVS be proud of who they are na), engine is reportedly very linear and predictable, gearbox is apparently very slick, michelins are ideal for people looking to tour as well.

For anyone not interested in outright performance and handling or not interested in paying 1.5-2lakhs more only to argue that "inline twin cylinder refinment is worth it", this seems to strike the perfect balance. I would even go as far as to call this the Honda CBR of its segment? Although reliability quotient is yet unknown.

Just by the pictures or were you able to check it out in person. I see this bike to be CBR and pulsar fused together in the design room while someone with old karizma walked in and added some insights of how the bike should look.

Touring i have my doubts due to the max pay load and overall purpose of the bike.

It looks very clean and neat. Like you said, RC390 haters now get an option but any one chosing a bike between 2 and 3l with starter race bike in mind will find it very difficult to not look at RC390 purely because of pricing. The difference is 2.05 vs 2.35 Ex.

Should easily be reliable as it lacks lot of tech components except abs. Even a VW is reliable mechanically. Where the german bike/car fail is electronics. This bike skipped things like slipper clutch, ride by wire, traction control or anything that will add unreliable components.

What one should look forward for is the service cost, spares cost and overall ownership cost where there is no other bike like KTM that leads the market.(Read Cheap)

Re: TVS Akula 310 unveiled

I guess we are nitpicking on the Apache 310RR.

Leaving aside RC390 comparison, Akula is a very good bike. It looks good(half the battle won), reasonably fast, handles good(i still feel it was slow to turn, going by how OD rider rode around the track, felt like it took effort to throw around) and has ABS! If only they had priced it 25k lesser, it would have nailed the coffin on D400.

A lot of people who are not into spirited riding, and with budget for a Dominar will definitely consider Apache 310. That is, if it sees showroom floor sooner, unlike Apache rtr200 4v.

Kudos !!! TVS for producing such mean machine here in India, possibly the best master stroke from the TVS stable. Competition like Bajaj, RE, KTM and the likes will surely face the heat.

Autocar report the bike has excellent fit and finish even go onto say the best built quality by TVS, I hope the bike is worth the premium price.

Looks I feel to be kinda like the Ducatis with the gold forks, black headlights and that tail light design especially in red I called it a CBR because it reminded me of a bike that does everything well and isn't really the best at anything in particular but offers the perfect balance.

Not sure about outright touring where one carries luggage, but long rides in general ought to be fairly comfortable cause the tank seems well sculpted to grip onto and the clip-ons seem decently high so as not to put one into much of a leant-forward position. The rear-tilted cylinder should also mean that this bike will carry a very easy to live with 50-50 weight distribution unlike the RC390 which might be light on paper but due to its sporty frontal weight bias, some people find it difficult to carve through city traffic with especially if they aren't used to riding sport bikes and aren't fit enough physically. So as "race bred" as TVS says the RR310 is, those clip-ons, that engine and subsequent weight distribution, seem to disagree so I feel like this will do well in the city.

As a track bike for sure no one is going to bother buying this over the KTM unless it is a sponsored purchase. BUT as a bike to live with every day, this now makes it harder for one to justify paying 1.5-2 lakhs extra for something like the R3 or N300.

Electricals are one thing, but it remains to be seen how the engine handles different riding styles, how often things like the chain needs adjustment or the valve clearances need to be set. (All factors that I have noted from my RC390 ownership experience)

The new Apache RR 310 shares its underpinnings with the BMW G 310R. A lightweight trellis frame forms the backbone of the bike. The styling of the Apache RR 310 is inspired by the Akula concept. The fairing is claimed to have the lowest co-efficient of drag in the segment. The front features bi-LED projector headlights with a racing stripe running down the centre of the front cowl. LED daytime running lights have been integrated into the headlamp clusters. It also comes with LED tail lights. It gets clip-on handle bars and a vertically laid out digital instrument cluster that can record 18 different diagnostic parameters at any given time. The RR 310 rides on 5-spoke, 17-inch alloy wheels and gets 41-mm KYB upside-down front forks and an adjustable monoshock at the rear. The bright red trellis frame of the bike is visible when viewed from the side.

Under the skin, the TVS Apache RR 310 is powered by a 312.2cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine with a Bosch closed loop fuel injection system. The engine is reverse inclined and gets double overhead camshafts (DOHC) along with a hydraulic cam chain tensioner for lower maintenance. The engine delivers a peak output of 33.5 BHP @ 9,700 rpm and 27.3 Nm of torque @ 7,700 rpm and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. TVS claims the Apache RR 310 will do 0-60 km/h in 2.92 seconds while 100 km/h comes up in 7.17 seconds. The claimed top speed of the bike is 160 km/h.

Re: TVS Akula 310 unveiled

MAN! What an awesome machine! Looks as good as a Ducati! Definitely a premium product. Priced really sensibly. Hats off to Indian manufacturers like Bajaj and TVS.

Though there’s still 2 reasons why I’d still go for RC and not this.
1. Clip-ons are too high.
2. Heard repeatedly that engine is very linear.

But, if these 2 things doesn’t matter (pretty sure most of the people prefer it this way), don’t even think twice. Grab it!

Bit overpriced, but certainly one of the sexiest motorcycles produced by an Indian manufacturer.

Some first ride reports -
