Why Supersport ergonomics?

Of all bikes I have enjoyed, my brother's R15 was the best, owing to that amazing handling dynamics that came with the low clipons and aggressive riding position. I faced no discomfort with the r15 (back in 2011). So I thought why not try the RC390? The student to whom I sold my D390 happened to own an RC 200 too. I borrowed the bike for a couple of days and rode 300 km on highways and some badroads to understand if i can live with supersport ergonomics.

I was pleasantly surprised that RC handled better than R15 and was way more comfortable than R15/Duke to me. On the duke, i sit upright and the entire weight of my torse falls on the lower back. While on the RC, a part of the load falls on my shoulder, elbows and wrist. I do have very strong shoulders, arms and upper back, which made RC ergonomics feel perfect to me. I am sure RC will be more comfortable to all tall riders(5'11+)

Thanks guy. Sorry, I'm at work and couldn't run through the whole thing, but I distinctly remember Prasanna "SIR" selling his duke because of a bad back. That's one thing that scares me, any lower disc issue sets in because of motorcycle riding and you are done for life.

So Prasanna "SIR", hope to see around sometime up and about Kolli Hills.

Hey Pal

Very nicely written review with your background.

I too have RC390 since last 2 Years. I completely agree with you that on long rides it spares your lower back and bums from going sore; though one has to be fit to ride it as it is a focused track day bike. It is a light weight, very powerful and utterly flickable machine which helps immensely on highways. I have raced in Formula Car series many times and this bike is the most close experience anywhere near that.

The only negative is it absolutely dislikes bad roads and speed bumps besides low tank range.

Enjoy your new steed and wish you a happy mile munching!!

Sports frame bikes are as follows

RC390 - Pure bred. Aggressive and meant for track days 100%
R3 - Little forgiving making it a nice all rounder
310RR - Great compromise yet a good ride to enjoy. But lacks power which is the only grapewine, but hey, thats just 2L
Ninja 300- Too much overpriced and its a powerful 310RR IMHO

KTM390 - Sweet ride that is urban but has so much sport in it. If you do not want aggressive position, KTM390 cannot be missed

Now with 4L check for used 650's. Or Up the ante and get the new 650's

Thanks for the suggestion,I loved R3 but lack of ABS is a deal breaker for me.I am not a track guy and find RC390 to be too aggressive for my riding position.Keeping in mind that I am not a tall person, how is a versys 650?

Hey

Marquez is shorter than you and he rides rr class. N650 IS PERFECTLY fine for most riders unless you are really short.

Give it a test ride in Banglore. Or even try renting it for a weekend.

Completely agree with you on that. Deep Squats and deadlifts - a must for anyone who loves a long drive. The weights on both should be at least equal to the bodyweight.
Unfortunately most of us just limit ourselves to arms and chest exercises.

So to anyone who has been into a gym, and has studied basics about training, they would know that it takes proper nutrition + proper rest + proper form to remain injury free and keep on pushing the limits.
I know this is out of topic, but considering that we have many of us who are interested in driving/riding, I would like to mention the Stronglifts 5x5 program. The website has a great guide on proper form and technique.

@Prasanna - Nice review on the bike!!

I strongly recommend Apache RR310! It looks like a perfect all rounder and it is VFM too!

One question, I heard that KTM has now made the high and low beam two separate bulbs. The two won't light up together now. Is that the case? I personally think that the bike looks wicked with both the bulbs on.

Regards,
Vishy
Thank you Vishy!

True, both lights wont light up anymore. It is a stupid move KTM!

When I was reading your updates on old thread on the RC booking, I was wondering why you were not considering 310RR, but now I do know and say RR doesn't suit you .

Good to see you getting into riding gears, its better to be careful than sorry.

Have a happy riding.

KK
Thanks a lot KK!

I remembered your post in my old 390 ownership thread while I booked the RC 390, it said something like "Riding is an addiction". And I acknowledged the fact while i paid the first 10k.

Odo stands at 410 km

Hello Prasanna,

Big congrats to the new member in your family. IMHO this review is a classical example of people being rational and sensible about what they want. I loved the way you narrated it from your perspective.

One question here is R3 still on sale ? I am actually looking forward for an upgrade to 300/400 cc segment and R3 and Ninja 300/400 is in my list but only with ABS. So I am waiting since 3 months. Expecting some honest suggestions regarding the same.

Cheers !

Thank you Alen!

R3 in BS4 avatar hasnt been launched yet. And there are no news about imminent launch. I guess it will be here only after march 2018.

Only ABS bikes in 300-400cc segment are KTM twins,Apache RR310, Benelli 302 twins. I suggest you wait for Ninja 400 launch. It will be a complete bike!

Even the Dominar comes with ABS as well. Though it's optional.

Only I am worried about the pricing there has been lot of speculations around the corner. I have been following this particular thread since it was posted.

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/motorb...nja-400-a.html

But this particular thread http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/motorbikes/191394-double-graduation-honda-dio-kawasaki-ninja-300-a.html

made me rethink ....

Is it worth the wait? I hope so (fingers crossed !). So as an option I was considering R3. It was surprise for me when you mentioned about R3

If you are not in a tight budget, it is definitely worth the wait. But if you are coming from a naked bike/cruiser as your previous bike, RC will be extreme for you.

R3 is a wonderful bike if you can compromise on handling.
