Not sure about the 3M one, but the Motul chain spray needs some time to dry and cure. And then it doesn't splatter. It becomes like a sticky mess on the chain.

Thank you for the detailed response and i fully agree with your submission on the Indian Scenario

My journey with CBR 250R (ABS) was also of similar sorts i.e long time no issues however when there were issues they made you go crazy

only major hinderance was the non availability of the spare parts at the authorized service centres ( 3 of them ) and the waiting period.

being the sole ride ( and daily ) of 60 kms daily this becomes a huge inconvenience which is best avoided.

took wife to the KTM showroom yesterday. am right now in dilemma to go for RC200 or RC390. this should be decided in next couple of weeks.

Absolutely the same issue with my CBR 250R. It was terrificly reliable, but spare parts were always an issue.

Between RC200 & RC390, I would suggest RC390 (since you have already been using a 250). RC200 is 70k cheaper, but it will make you feel underpowered on highways. RC390 can do what an RC200 can, and it can be absolute fun on highways as well as city.

Think about this- 70k brings you these as extra- ABS, bigger better brakes, Ride by wire, nearly 20 more raging horses, adjustable levers, better tyres and slipper clutch!

Close your eyes and go for the 390.

Dear Prasanna

Thank you, from my side RC390 is the way to go, however as you know if you want to buy something along with your wife then it is adviceable not to share your decision with her. There should be a feeling that its a joint decision however one must slowly suggest strong points of product you want to buy

In this case have already pitched ABS = Safety factor to her. Hope to close this in Jan 1st week. best regards Deepak

Update:

First free service complete.

Odo: 1160 km

Issues reported: "sak-sak" noise from front disc due to dust. Disc pads were cleaned and now the issue is sorted out.

Bike feels smoother, kind of muted a bit.

First free service cost : 1640 rs incl taxes

Pretty reasonable I would say.

Now, my RC390 is ready for some long distance mile munching and ghats riding.

Which oil they use? I assume it as Motul 7100.

Ha! I didnt even notice it until you pointed out. Usually paid services with same services costed me 2750(old 390). So I thought, free service saves me 1000 bucks.

KTM SVC uses motul 7100 for all 390s (200s too i guess).

Fuel Efficiency update:
Odo: 1320 km

Trip meter reading: 1161 km

Trip avg speed: 43 kmph
(normal riding in city + highway(50% 110-120 kmph cruising + 50% going all out)

Avg fuel efficiency: 22.8 kmpl

So if you are new to KTM 390s or to any 300 for that matter, this is the kind of fuel efficiency you might get. Agreed, you might get 30+ if you ride like a saint. But why buy 35+ bhp bike for riding at 80kmph?

I am pretty happy with the fuel efficiency(my old 390 was a good 1 kmpl less fuel efficient).

Update:
odo: 1750 km

I took my RC 390 to Kolli hills

Round trip distance: 279 km
First long distance ride on the RC 390. 5 hours non stop (2 tea breaks)


140 hairpin bends, messed up roads, and a great time!

Loved the RC. Felt so effortless around corners. just avoid target fixation, you will beautifully corner at nice lean angles.

Nicely written review.

I have a query. Considering you’ve extensive experience with the old 390 motor and the new one, which one would you consider more urgent, more brutal off the line?

I’m the type of person who doesn’t care a bit about top-speed. The only things I care about are acceleration, mid-range and handling. Since, my query is only about the engine, what is your response with respect to the 2 things mentioned above?

Or let me put it this way...your bio says ‘if a motorcycle doesn’t scare you a little, it isn’t the one’. So which scares you more?

No second thoughts about the answer. It is definitely the old 390 that was more urgent off the line. And scarier too!

New BS4 390s are too refined to give you that scary push of the older motor. Don't get distracted though, newer 390s are as fast too,, but feels a bit gentler. But after a few weeks, both the motors will feel slow, that is, We outgrow them. But yes, one needs a lot of experience and skill to ride a 390 at its peak all the time.

If you are thinking of buying a 390, and you are an acceleration person, go for the 2016 pre worshipped 390s. They are scary, have slipper clutch and will keep you entertained for a long time. Newer 390s are gentle men in comparison.
