Pls excuse a little OT with a little tribute to M80...

1. M80 & Street were NOT maxi scooters, unless you meant Kinetic Blaze. They were a class called STEP-THRU (or step-through)
2. HH Street wasn't successful, but M80 was a massive hit. Even after going out of production, M80 still can be seen on the streets much better than (my favorite) RTZ, but only next to Rx

M80 was extremely popular in rural areas especially with milk vendors trying to abuse M80 & some of them failing. Such strong was the product.

The price of the Aerox is another concern. This will probably be priced at 1.8L to 2.0L ex-showroom. I am quoting more than my post about prices last time, this is based on the current trend of new launches in the 2-wheeler segment.

This thread is already 3 years old and we do not seem to have concrete data. I would prefer to forget Aerox until Yamaha launches an official teaser.
My question is based on the recent rumours after Yamaha got the approval of design. The document was all over the web and discussed last month.

There is room for Maxi scooters, there are few maxi-like scooters already in the market, the recent one was SXR from Aprilia.

M80 was a 3 geared scooter which sold in a very-good number for 10+ years and Hero Honda street was not. I don’t think we can call them as Maxi scooters, they were just Utility vehicles .

The only maxi scooter Indian roads ever saw was, Kinetic blaze, that faded away along with the brand Kinetic.

re: Yamaha Aerox 155 Scooter. Edit: Launched at 1.29 lakhs

I think the market is ripe for such a scooter. It'll have the R15's engine block (about 14.6 bhp) as it will be a CVT drive and 14" wheel rims.

If Aprilia can sell maxi-scooters just by changing the body cladding and plastics, this on the other hand will be a complete new scooter with an engine never seen on any scooter in India before. Though it looks more like a step-through.

I had ridden a similar bike in Thailand (Yamaha NMax) along with Honda's PCX150 and these things move really fast!

My guess is, they will price it under the MT15 which if compared to the Aprilia SXR160 (approx. 1.50 lacs OTR Pune), makes good value.

re: Yamaha Aerox 155 Scooter. Edit: Launched at 1.29 lakhs

I dont think the Aerox falls under the maxi scooter category. The Nmax 155 is the maxi version of this (clue in the name) . This is more of a sport category. The raised floor may even make this a step thru.

Maxi scooters need to have adequate wind protection comfy seating position and longer floorboard area. They usually have a higher storage capacity too.

You are correct. The Aerox is a modern interpretation of the step-thru which also is a popular segment for Yamaha with the Sniper series. The max series (N, T, X) are the scooters made for touring.

The aerox 155 is common in Singapore and acceleration is almost like electric vehicles - very instant.

That’s very interesting news, thanks for sharing nairrk!

Hope the specifications are close to if not the same as the international model. India on the basis of reducing cost almost always gets watered down versions of everything. International specifications will make it the most powerful scooter in India and if priced well, it should sell. Even if it’s mildly overpriced it will have it’s takers with that kind of power, looks and being an automatic scooter.

Cheers

This is FANTASTIC pricing by Yamaha!

This will cost about 1.70L on-road in Bangalore. This will definitely hit the Aprilia if the idea of a scooter/motorcycle works in India.

The Honda Navi was a moderate success.

I am super happy to have this product in India

Nice! I was planning to buy an Ntorq, but this looks like it'll be much more fun. Is that essentially an R15 motor in there? Detuned perhaps, with some losses through the auto tranny too I'm sure. Still, looks nice and should go like stink. Can't find the weight of this thing anywhere though.

It is an R15 motor indeed, albeit with 2 valves instead of 4. It weighs in at a paltry 126kg fully-loaded, which translates to a power-to-weight ratio of nearly 120 bhp/ton. I wouldn't be surprised if it can beat the R15 off the line from a standstill !

So, essentially this is not a step-thru. Wonder what is in that space between the legs. Is it a storage area?
