Royal Enfield launches Thunderbird 350X & 500X in India

According to a media report, Royal Enfield is set to launch two new variants of the Thunderbird series in 2018. That includes the Thunderbird 500X which was spotted recently and the 350X which is based on the Thunderbird 350.

The Thunderbird 350X is expected to receive similar cosmetic updates as the 500X, however it will only be offered in two dual-tone colour options - red and white. That said, like the 500X, it too will get black alloy wheels and matte black engine and crankcase. The 350X will also get black painted front forks, headlight housing and instrument pods and a black exhaust. The 350cc version will get a new single-piece stepped seat, redesigned grab handle and an integrated LED tail light like the 500X. Also, the raised handlebars of the standard Thunderbird will be replaced with shorter units.

Mechanically, the Thunderbird 350X is expected to be identical to the standard Thunderbird 350. It will be powered by a 346cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine with an output of 19.8 BHP @ 5,250 rpm and 28 Nm of peak torque @ 4,000 rpm. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Like the standard bike, the 350X is likely to get front and rear disc brakes.

While media reports suggest that the Thunderbird 350X will be launched alongside the 500X, Royal Enfield is yet to make a formal announcement.

So I guess the folks at Royal Enfield decided to play the cosmetic game with the T-bird as well. Guess they got bored trying to come up with new colour schemes for the classic 500
I am pretty sure though, that the customers will lap this up! Looks like T-bird number on the road will rise starting next year!

The bug of cosmetic updates has hit RE as well. Since, more number of CL 350s are dotting the roads, in the coming year more T-Birds will be seen on the streets of Chennai, Phagwara, Delhi and other cities. RE seems to get gold whatever and wherever it touches and these launches will surely set the cash registers ringing.

Really good updates that the market has been asking for a long time now - alloy wheels and possibly tubeless tyres too.

However, what beats me is - the (relatively) less expensive Thunderbird gets all the industry standard features that one expects from this segment, but the upcoming flagship looks like an existing Continental GT spin-off and doesn't get LED DRLs or projector headlamps or alloys or tubeless tyres!

Two words come to my mind watching RE these days: Poppins & Gems

Isn't the essence of RE / Bullet is being Macho? Alloys (hopefully Tubeless) BTW is welcome.

Its time RE comes up with a new machine altogether rather than color schema changes to create X, Y, and Z of old models.
The market and competition is changing fast.

I saw a yellow colored one on the road about a month ago. The bike was registered and a young guy was riding, mostly to office as that is what I could infer from his get up and bag.

From the pictures, the alloys have a rim highlight which matches the tank's colour. Nice touch, I say. Hope the same eye for detail has gone into the other aspects.

The launch date is confirmed. Just received an official invite to the launch event from my dealer here in Ahmedabad.

Even though it looks more like a simple mod job, it is nice to get them directly from the showroom rather than getting it done outside.

I liked the new handlebar set up as well.

Somehow, I found the normal handlebars that come with Thunderbird quite vague.

Happy Riding

New paint schemes and makeovers, and still no ABS? I hope Royal Enfield is well aware of the fact that how extensively their bikes are used in the highways for long distance rides. Was considering the 350X after my NS, even though the missing ABS is a setback.

Same here.

I liked Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350X. It's a good-looking motorcycle with nice specifications. I am considering this as a replacement for my existing motorcycle RE 350 Classic.
