2018 TVS Apache RTR 200 4V now with Slipper Clutch a.k.a. Race Edition

Hi Everyone,

TVS seems to have slightly upgraded their indigenous flagship the Apache RTR 200 4V by releasing the same in a new color scheme with an added windscreen and slipper clutch which TVS has christened 'A-RT Slipper Clutch' the same has been claimed to not only prevent wheel hop on aggressive downshifting but also marginally improved up-shifting by reducing resistance.

The showroom prices at Delhi are Rs. 95185 (Carburetor), Rs. 107885 (EFI) and Rs. 108985 (Carburetor with ABS).

Being an amateur my skills are limited such that I've never felt the need for a slipper clutch on my Bajaj Pulsar 220F as I manage with throttle blipping but the same doesn't always work with my Bajaj CT100B as the engine braking force may at times be a little overwhelming causing the rear to slip/hop. I hope more experienced riders would provide more info on the same.

Good to see TVS upping Tech. in their bikes. ABS, Slipper clutch under 1/1.2 Lakh ex-showroom. Keeping the power figures aside, this should make it the most VFM. But, word in the market is that the RTR200 is not very fuel efficient, may well be the reason it has not scorched the streets yet.

My memory is a bit foggy but the RTR200 4V runs off a 33mm CV carburetor which is the same in the case of the Bajaj 200NS, so its not much of a surprise that the fuel efficiency of both motorcycles hover around the 25~45kmpl mark.

But the the 200NS runs 13-39 sprocket configuration where as the RTR200 runs off a 13-45 sprocket configuration, as a result of which the 200NS gives better fuel mileage on the highway whereas the RTR200 fares better within city limits.

Without a proper strategy. They didn't give a slipper clutch to their flagship RR310 when they knew their main competition had it - and now they introduce it in their 20hp premium commuter?

TVS Apache RTR 200 4V was a good product let down by TVS marketing and sales network. Too late to revive it now. They should have given slipper clutch on their flagship instead.

BMW 310R and 310GS does not get a slipper clutch and its the same parts/supply chain as the 310RR. Since the platform is shared with BMW and keeping with part commonality (so a bike doesnt get built incorrectly) not having that part would make the bike easy to build on a multi platform line.

Comparing the two the RTR200 is more in need of a slipper clutch than the RR310, that is due to the smaller displacement and more aggressive gearing 13:45 compared to the RR310's much taller 17:42 setup.

Which leads me to believe that TVS has done their homework when it comes to functionality.

Has anyone owned a EFI version of Apache RTR 200 4V? I was actively looking to buy this bike one and half year back but was disappointed by TVS.

Will this product with slipper clutch sell? TVS lost an excellent opportunity to capture market long back as Apache RTR 200 4V was a VFM product.
