The Suzuki Burgman Street, now launched at Rs. 68,000

Suzuki plans to usher its flagship Burgman range of scooters in India at the Auto Expo 2018. The Burgman Street (most probably in a 125 / 150 cc avatar) is expected to go up against the Aprilia SR150 when it launches.

This might just be the maxi-scooter I've been waiting for!

I'm not too enthused by the specs of the 125 even assuming we get what UK gets. I did a quick and dirty comparison with some of the benchmarks we already have - the Activa 125 & SR150 and then sorted based on the Power to Weight ratio and here is what I get. Am sure it will set no speed records and its not meant to but the 40kg extra weight has to be lugged around as if it just doesn't exist. So it better be the Burgman 150 to be at least as driveable as the SR150 or the Vespa 125 and priced near about depending on the feature list.

Hope Suzuki doen't do a 'Inazuma' with this scooter.
If it places this scooter well then we can expect some action in performance scooter segment in future, which excites me.
I'm eagerly waiting for such an offering from few manufacturers.

I think, Hero has lost it's track as there are no signs of Dare / Zir etc.

Your concerns about the driveability of this scooter are indeed well-founded, Nilesh5417. But the model scooped on Autocar India seems to be a bit different from the Burgman 125 available in the UK. The front fender area doesn't seem quite as deep, the silencer seems stubbier, and the tail lamps don't have the split design available on the one sold in the UK. I really hope that the Burgman Street doesn't weigh as much as its UK counterpart, in interests of performance, fuel economy, and handling. If I remember correctly, the Kinetic Blaze available in the market a few years ago used to weigh 136 kg. I hope the kerb weight of this scooter is in the same ballpark.

It should mostly be a 125cc (Access powerplant), Burgman. The tyre in the scoop pic looks conventional. However, I did notice something that looks like a rear disc brake setup.
If they manage to keep it as light as the Access 125, then it would pack a punch.

My guess is Suzuki doing another 'Intruder' like experiment, this time using the scooters they sell in India. Use a foreign name for a scooter that is essentially built on the platforms of Access or Lets.

Their Japanese version of Swish looks very good and would easily compete against the Grazia here in India.

As a Blaze owner (still), I look forward to maxi scooters as they have been so far, a long overdue and overlooked offering in India. Besides superior performance and ride compared to commuter scooters, it is the wheelbase and the stepped comfortable seating that really sets maxi scooters apart. Hope the Burgman lives up to it's reputation on these fronts

As much as I agree with you, I am sure none of these maxi scooters will be launched by Suzuki, Honda or Yamaha. Answer is simple: it will kill the 125-150 cc commuter motorcycles market as they offer not just power but convenience of space and comfort as well. I test rode a Yamaha S-Max in Bali and it left me thinking if there is a way to smuggle this scooter to India

So as predicted, we get a made for India product on the lines of the Intruder 150. In this case, its not such a bad thing since this one looks proportionate. No engine details yet?

Its based on the Access 125. Engine is a 125.

With console etc from Intruder 150.

Was expecting Access based scooter with 150cc engine from its other bike, I own an 125 access and felt bike could easily handle more power, and could use its lightweight to have advantage over other 150cc scooters.

The rear wheel looks extremely puny for all the mass above it. Another Suzuki suffering from the chicken-leg syndrome. A real pity, because the overall design (especially the front end) is pretty nice! Also, they could've designed the handlebar better so as to not interfere with the digital console.

Its like the intruder syndrome. The body looks big but its going to be powered by a 125cc. They could have gone for a 150cc engine. I like the looks of it at least in the pictures. But its still no maxi scooter. Also in this day and age the fuel cap should be more accessible.The console from the Gixxer just makes it seem like suzuki engineers could not be bothered to make a new one ....after all the work they put in bloating the access 125 up. If i wanted a 125cc with fresh looks i would rather go for the Ntorq125. I wonder what has happened to the Aerox 155 that we saw in the spy shots. No update from Yamaha on that. Honda haven't even bothered to show up with any of its maxi scooters except for the PCX electric concept. Which i doubt will see the light of day in India.

It is so frustrating, India is such a huge market compared to many others but they get a much wider range, whereas we get anaemic offerings.

- I don't understand the fascination with the smaller rear wheels. We've seen with the TVS offerings how a 12" wheel enhances ride and handling. With a 14" on both sides, it would be even better
- a 150 cc would've been better than another 125
- With motorbikes, we've seen that the indian consumer is willing to pay much more for premium offerings. Will any company be brave enough for this?
