KTM 390 Duke silently recalled; Tagged as "free monsoon kit fitment"

Source : Motoroids

https://www.motoroids.com/news/2017-...n-kit-fitment/

Quote:
KTM has silently recalled the 2017 390 Duke to check and replace certain brackets on the motorcycle. Instead of calling it a recall, KTM has tagged the activity as Monsoon Kit Fitment. The activity is free of cost and has been called “compulsory” for the 2017+ KTM 390 Duke models.

I assume these would be already included in 2018 models? June 2018 to be specific.

What ingenuity! Come on KTM, recalls are a GOOD thing and now the market also sees them as positive developments. There's no shame in admitting you made a mistake, as long as you are willing to correct it (which you are). In fact, a 'recall' has now started to infer that one is a 'responsible' manufacturer.

Hell yeah! Why are KTM acting so coy? If only all manufacturers were this proactive. The most impressive bit is that they are replacing brackets and bushes! Headlamp vibrations are being taken care of! Then there are the guys who sell bikes with welds that fail and its business as usual.
Also goes to show how much our market has evolved. I bought a Shogun back in '95 and it came with a faulty crankshaft. After a year of alternately pleading and threatening I replaced the part at my own cost.

Ahha. Now I know why the KTM showroom was calling me up each week to bring my bike in for the Monsoon Kit Fitment.

This happens more widely in the market than people know.

Most companies look at recall in two ways - If the recall issue affects non-engine parts they issue an official recall.

If the recall is even due to a very minor issue in or around the engine they do the silent recall thing (*cough* Hero *cough*)

I recall someone telling me that there was an issue in the original Grand Vitara launched in India, and maruti did not want to do anything to impact the fledgling reputation of its brand new flagship product. So they rolled out a free stereo (!) for every owner, and nobody suspected a thing!
