TVS Motor Company has invested Rs. 6 crores in Ultraviolette Automotive Pvt. Ltd. as part of a Series A funding.

Ultraviolette Automotive is a Bangalore-based electric mobility company that is currently developing an electric motorcycle that is claimed to outperform a 200-250 cc bike. The fresh investment will help the company expand its R&D team and facility.

Ultraviolette Automotive was founded in 2016. In December 2017, TVS bought 14.78% stake in the company for Rs. 5 crores.

The name sounded familiar and I realized I saw a multi-storied building (seemed work in progress) with the branding "Ultraviolette Automotive" on the Inner/Intermediate Ring Road, Bangalore. Possibly their registered office with some product display space as well ?

*Found it mentioned on their website - Link

Just following in Hero's footsteps, albeit at a far smaller scale. It might be recollected that Hero had invested big money into Ather Energy - related news. Of course, Hero's investment seemed a lot more mature as Ather actually had a product to show before that $$$ came in.

It is above the Stanley showroom. I would have thought as a start-up, they would begin with low overheads in a decent building in the suburbs. The current building is not a place to build/assemble/test bikes

Interesting low cost method of doing R&D on electric vehicles. The risk is negligible (Rs. 6 crores) for TVS. For Ultraviolette, it will be lot easier to raise more funds from other investors in the future since TVS is on board.

I saw the building again today and it's not the one with the Stanley showroom. I remember Stanley was near the end of 100 ft road near Barbeque Nation, not sure if you meant that one. If yes, possibly an older office space of Ultraviolette Automotive ?

This new building that I was referring to (and the link on their website I shared also has the address of) is on the intermediate ring road adjacent to the erstwhile Girias showroom, now Girias Children's Explorium.

They should back their own engineers rather, who came up with the showstopper Creon concept - which looked all set to take on the Ather 450.

Ultraviolette Automotive finally has a prototype to show for their efforts, and Autocar India had an exclusive go at it -

Hopefully they also launch a standard variant. Sports bikes may look cool but there is very little demand in India. Just look at Apache 310 - great bike but poor sales.

Might work for a small time manufacturer - because they can only serve limited volumes, atleast for the first couple of years since launch. A mass market model can come later.

Ather still hasn't delivered pre-orders after 8 months.

That is a LOT of torque on a bike that size (and with those tyres). To put into perspective, the 2300cc Triumph Rocket 3 churns out ~220Nm, and it eats up the 240 section rear tyre in about 6-7k kms.

EDIT: Just read the link you shared; seems like the torque figure is 90Nm. Still jaw dropping, though (my Daytona makes way lesser).

A big 2.2 diesel engine produces 50Nm less torque, in the Indian context. I don't believe that figure as well, but I didn't type it wrong.

In an earlier thread about Tesla roadster, i had made a similar mistake in interpretation. The Wheel torque is different from the torque at Crank. This article set my view straight.
