Dominar Austral Asian Odyssey - 28000 km, 10 countries, Solo Lady rider

After "Trans-Siberian Odyssey" and "Polar Odyssey", Dominar is now being tested with an "Austral Asian Odyssey". All the way from Bangalore to Sydney riding across 10 Countries, 28000+km in 120 days.

The rider, Candida Louis, will be taking this attempt solo. She would be starting from Bangalore covering the east coast of India towards the northeast. Then via Manipur to Myanmar - Thailand - Laos - Vietnam - Cambodia - Thailand - Malaysia - Singapore - Indonesia - Australia. She'll be doing two island hops, one from Malaysia to Indonesia and the other from Timor to Darwin. From Darwin she would be riding all the way to Sydney.

Short interview from a popular vlogger about the ride -

The ride starts on 25th of August 2018, from Bangalore. Respect! And wish her the very best on this journey.

Is that a modified Dominar ? Looks a bit raised than the usual ones ? Or is that an upcoming adventure version of the Dominar ?

re: Dominar Austral Asian Odyssey - 28000 km, 10 countries, Solo Lady rider

Somehow, when I read the heading of the thread the one name that came to my mind was that of Candida Louis - don't know how, just sort of popped up in my mind (maybe because I had read about her a few days back.)

Another thing to note is that despite its not so sterling sales, Dominar is fast becoming the preferred bike of choice for doing cross country trips. First there was the Tras Siberian ride, then came a ride across the two American continents from North to South, then there was this trip of our forum member going to Bhutan , and now this. That's saying something, given that Duke 390 from which it is derived continues to have its share of niggles.

Cheers !

I am not a bike man - have never ridden one but can't help admire her courage and confidence and skill. By jove she deserves our very best wishes for success and safety. It would be interesting if this thread could be updated with her progress. May she inspire other young women to break boundaries in their chosen fields.

That is going to be an amazing experience. IMO, this is the way of living the life to it's fullest!

Wishing Candida a safe and successful trip!

Re: Dominar Austral Asian Odyssey - 28000 km, 10 countries, Solo Lady rider

I knew it was Candida when I read the title! Go Girl!

Man! I've never crushed on anyone so hard before, she rides and has the odo figures to show for it, what more to expect from the ideal biker girl!

I attended the xBhp RoadTripUnited event hoping to meet Candida in person, though I personally do not know her I've heard only good things about her from the very limited number of motorcycling enthusiasts who actually have a decent odo read to show for it, and that means something. Unfortunately she was not present for the meetup at Trivandrum, hope to meet her on the highways sometime in the future.

Many more such boundaries to be broken - as per her Instagram posts, she was denied a stay at Vijayawada though rooms were clearly available.

Seems to be an issue with a lot of small towns. Small hotels do sometimes deny rooms to couples and single women. When traveling by road, I've started carrying a copy of our marriage certificate because of this! My wife and I have been asked for 'proof of relationship' at a couple of places in the past! From personal experience, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu seem the worst as far as this is concerned. West Bengal in particular, we were asked this at hotels in Shantiniketan, Bishnupur, and even Kolkata! Goa is the best, no one cares who is checking in with whom and for what reason, and that's the way it should be.

I think the cops harass small hotel owners based on their guest list. But it's really a pain to deal with this pseudo-morality nonsense after a hard day's riding.

This is very very common across the country. Be it single lady or single gent, they just wouldn't give a room. Most feared reason for hoteliers is suicide. I faced it few times on my solo drives, last time being a coastal drive in Tamil Nadu. I had to seek help of cops at Mahabalipuram, prove to them that I was a solo driver and had them speak to a hotel and they let me in.

Had bitter experience in WB where me and my wife were denied accommodation because we did not have a marriage certificate. Our KA car filled with touring luggage did not help to prove to them also

I wonder why she's using RVM's from the Duke line-up?

If visibility and high speed stability were a concern then she could've gone for stock Bajaj Pulsar 150/180/200 Mirrors, best in terms of visibility and high speed stability and I say this in spite of having used Duke mirrors in the past and currently running on RTR mirrors on my 100.
