A cheaper and more sustainable/universal alternative would be to drill a hole somewhere in the inner faring with enough clearance and install a motorcycle 12v socket like the ones seen on the Ninja/Versys 650, they cost about a dollar or two on Aliexpress, add a fuse/wire tap which costs peanuts and you have a setup as reliable(or even more, considering ownership experiences of CBR's) as the stock setup.

A properly set up 12v socket ensures that you can connect a variety of gadgets(Volt Meter, Tire Pump, Emergency Light, Kettle etc) and chargers(even Turbo chargers) as and when needed.

I wanted a strobe so I have visibility (for vehicles at the back) while riding in the dark - so, bought a 60/- red strobe from the RE guy in Chennai. This was wired to blink when I am on pilot lamps, which means it all almost ALL the time I am riding. I keep my head lamps ON while riding so vehicles coming opposite also get an additional visibility.
That is some shady wiring friend, I wouldn't dare go with anything similar on any of my motorcycles irrespective of whether I have a FI/ECU setup or not and you do have a FI/ECU setup so more the reason to redo the wiring with proper clips, soldering, fuse/line taps and heat shrink sleeves.

re: Pre-worshipped 2013 Honda CBR 250R ABS. EDIT : 1 year & 10,000 km up!

The CBR completed another 250 odd kms trip : Chennai - Ambur - Arcot - Chennai. The odo stands at 36800 kms after the trip.

The bike felt lethargic before the trip with the "urgency" missing while downshifting. Called up Karthik and he mentioned that the air filter was cleaned in the return journey in Dec 2018 and asked me to check the tyre pressure. Suggested a 33 for rear and 29 for front - noticed it was 24 psi at the time of check.

I was able to clock good speeds in the highway but I think the performance has dipped a bit - probably as it did close to 5K kms after the oil change. Will get it replenished in another 1000 kms.

Attaching the bill from the second service at Highlander on 31 Dec 2018. The chain sprocket kit was replaced. The front discs / pads will need to be replaced along with the upcoming service. Got the PUC done, insurance renewal set for March 2019.

re: Pre-worshipped 2013 Honda CBR 250R ABS. EDIT : 1 year & 10,000 km up!

No News Is Good News. Insurance renewal done.

The current insurance expired towards March end and I had started scouting for a good policy (with decent rates). ICICI Lombard, being nice, for the existing customer, send me a beautiful quote of 14K for 3 years and was very pro-active. My eyes popped out seeing the quote and immediately messaged a bhpian to check on the quote. He reverted stating a 3 year policy should not cost more than 6K and asked me to check HDFC Ergo.

Did some check and found HDFC Ergo was giving one of the better quotes - I quoted an IDV of 75K and managed a premium of 6K inclusive of mandatory accident cover for the driver for 3 years. This was via the HDFC Ergo website. PolicyBazaar website, for HDFC Ergo policy didn't allow for more than a 65K IDV IIRC.

Otherwise, the bike is performing normal. Being summer, I haven't planned for any long rides, save for a short ride to ECR and back on last Friday.

Had a wash cum polishing done from Incredible, Anna Nagar and the bike looks really good. Had also opted for a chain clean and lube and requested them to pick and drop the bike. They charged a 100/- for pick & drop (anything more than 5 kms radius) and another 100/- for chain lube - am told they use Motul.

For the CBR 250, they charge a Rs. 950/-for wash & wax. But I got a better rate since I was a customer of Incredible, Besant Nagar.

Suggestions

I am planning to buy a used CBR250R.The state of the bike is very good and is well taken care of. However it has one major issue i.e the meter back light isn't working. Can you guys suggest if i can get it fixed anywhere in Bangalore. I have seen a few videos on youtube where they have changed the leds. However I am not sure how safe it is. i definitely don't want to replace the meter console.

Also if any of the members are aware of a single owner Honda cbr 250r in a good condition, could you please PM.

Thanks!

In Bangalore, I'd go to Highlander at HSR layout. Karthik - one of the best and top 3 mechanics for CBR, is working there. Last two times, I went all the way from Chennai to Bangalore (Highlander) to get the work done and am quite happy.

re: Pre-worshipped 2013 Honda CBR 250R ABS. EDIT : 1 year & 10,000 km up!

I went ahead and purchased a new visor (blue) and a pinlock. The helmet fell down 2 times during the last trip to Bangy and one of the pins went missing. Without this pin, the pinlock couldn't be inserted. Since there were some scratches too, I thought of going for a new one from Spartan.

Costs me 1000/- for the visor and 1800/- for the pinlock. I am retaining the stock visor (forgot to take it back and confirmed it's still with them in the showroom). There is perceivable difference on a bright noon, but low light visibility is a little lower than the clear visor (stock).

One annoying part is, the wind noise has gone high comparative to the old visor above 80 kmph - not sure it has something to do with any gaps or pinlock installation. Can anyone confirm on this please?

re: Pre-worshipped 2013 Honda CBR 250R ABS. EDIT : 1 year & 10,000 km up!

ODO Reading : 37,723 kms

I had to leave the bike for long in open space under the harsh sun and noticed some plastic crumbling like formation on the dial. Is this something the CBRs are subjected to?

Have seen a lot of similar cases. My CBR250R's meter had cracked after parking in a shade(probably some kids had played with it) and have changed it before i sold off the bike. The meter cover itself costs 700 bucks, and you can even get the black one(instead of silver finish on the side) from the CBR150R.

Not mine considering, I've always parked under shade as much as possible, but not subject to Weather & ridden on greater warmth under Sun. Hopefully your bike was not vandalized

It never had these wrinkles till I parked it in the sun one day. And yes, it's not broken at all. One can't even feel the wrinkles while touching the outer shell.

Nop, this is not vandalized as there were a lot of cars + bikes parked where I had and hardly any kids around. The wrinkles have increased after I had to park in sun, some days back. So, it does seem a problem with the plastic.

Then it must be an issue with the post 2011 batch vehicles. Mine is intact until now & will be more than happy to change if required as well

Hit this magic number and I can't believe I did almost a 10K kms in a year. Yes, I used to cover 20K kms per year religiously on my Swift D for 4 years but we are talking about a bike here; that too a fair newbie rider. I have loved every single moment (save for some trouble at Didar) and am madly in love with the bike. It has satisfied me on all counts and it's been a lovely journey.

Thanks to the fun I have had, I am already thinking of upgrading to a V Strom or a Versys 650 from the pre-owned market (but in next 2 years or so). It'll be a deviation from my love for faired bikes, but I guess I'd pick up rough & tough guy for "comfortable" interstate tours.

It's due for a service now and will be heading to Highlander in Bangalore mostly next month when one of my friend is coming down. Yes, the engine has become a little more rough and acceleration also is slower, but it still chugs on.

re: Pre-worshipped 2013 Honda CBR 250R ABS. EDIT : 3 years & 20,000 km up!

41, 000 kms completed

No news is good news. CBR has been munching miles and all is well. I just crossed 41,000 kms. Had got a service in between at Highlander Bangalore. The bike was pretty rough during the time but a refill addressed the problem. Have been trying to stick to very good pumps from then. The tyres are holding well and I still feel a decent level of grip so will wsit for some more kms before I change the tyres.

Odo at 41, xxx kms. Mostly on short runs and haven't had a good run in almost 5 months. Was thinking of a good TLC session and the spark ifnited last time I went to TCD (Top Coat Detailers). Loved the output. Left the bike for 2 days (was supposed to be delivered in a day but I was ok to leave it for another day) & I really love the output. Costs me 1600/-.
