If the vehicle is due for service then I would recommend getting the throttle body cleaned if its been a long time since it was last cleaned.

I got accelerator cables changed recently so seems like throttle body is all good and cleaned up.
The issue seems to happen after a bit of riding and after the bike has heated up a little.
I haven't faced this issue now for 2 days. But as it's a 3 year old bike that's barely ridden, I will just do a check on spark plugs, Battery condition, RR unit and valve adjustment.

Which brings me to the next question, it seems the RR unit is in a bad place and gets heated up. Has anyone here relocated their RR unit, as seen on a lot of videos on Youtube. If yes, can anyone help me doing the same?

TIA

I would not attempt this with the RR now. Do it later, once you isolate the issue of the fluctuating rpm.

As you mentioned that this happens only once the engine is hot, that points to the valve clearance. You should observe if there is difficulty starting the bike in hot conditions. Metal expands when its hot. If there is insufficient clearance (or play) of the valves, it will start stalling. However, you won't notice this under cold conditions as the valve play has increased again (As the metal has contracted).

I am not suggesting "It is" the valve clearance thats the cause of the issue. Its one of many things to check (When were the valves last adjusted). This behavior won't happen overnight. It will build up over time. I've got >33,000 km on my odometer and haven't adjusted the valves to date. Its still at factory setting. I have not faced wildly fluctuating rpm's cause I live in a part of the world where it does not get that hot. Seldom gets above 25 degrees in summer. I don't ride in the City at all either so there's no chance of the engine running hot to the point where the lack of clearance causes an issue.

Clocked 25,200 kms in 59 months. I missed stopping at the milestone mark. The next 1000-1200 kms took even longer! May be, as I was having a friend's Scrambler 400X and another friend's Tiger 800 at different point of times to baby-sit. In addition, throw in the festivals and lack of long rides!

Meanwhile getting the bike pampered.

I plan on buying a used Interceptor/Continental GT and getting the PoweRage short brushed aluminium finish end cans.

But if I get the headers as well, I’m worried about the free flow system not passing emissions.

Edit: Saw your post above later. But do enlighten me about the emissions. Thanks!
I did the emission check today. This is after installation of the header pipes. Absolutely no issues. I remembered your post asking about the emissions.

Thanks, haha! I did manage to get my hands on a used 2019 BS IV Continental GT. Installed PoweRage slip-ons. No issues with the emissions yet.

Two years of Therapeutic Joy

November 11 2022 was the worst day in my life. I was wondering if I had hit rock bottom. By the end of December, I knew I needed something more than the mundane if I had to lead a normal life without getting into depression.

Enter Interceptor

January 20 th I booked the Interceptor and took delivery on 5 February 2023, 2 years to the day. The first 1000 kms were disposed off in a week and the first service was done away with. Then the fun started.

The next 1000 kms were also ridden a little sedate so as to break the engine in. Meanwhile I met bhpian Tharian in Bengaluru and bought a pair of Hitchcock barend mirrors which went on to the bike

Powerage slip-ons

At 4500 kms, I felt the sound to be a bit muted and decided on the Powerage slip-ons after watching a few videos on YouTube. I saw a Red Rooster sample at the show room and did not like the sound. This exhaust went on and I was surprised with the weight saved and the sound was bliss.

Tyres

The rear Ceats lasted just 13,000 kms and the bike is on the 3rd rear tyre now. The front lasted 19,000 kms and is on the second one. Nothing very great about these tyres. I had two punctures, both at home, both handled by RSA .

Vredestein tyres

I have purchased Vredestein tyres with the alloys and will fix them in a couple of weeks after using up some more tyre as the ones on the bike are good enough for another 3000 kms

Powerage headers

At 20,000 kms , I got the Powerage headers and got them installed. They look good and sound good. If there is any increase in performance, I am not sure but there is definitely very good sound. With the exhausts, I could get the emission test done too.

Service

Service has been routinely done at the ASC . Nothing much to crib and nothing much to praise at the same time.
I got the chain sprocket set, the front brake pads, clutch cable change done at the 30,000 kms mark. Otherwise it has been just the routine services.

Cons

The bike refused to start once . Via RSA, the battery was charged and the problem never happened again. The service centre guys blamed it on the cold weather. The bike had been ridden for 100 kms even the previous day. There was no battery warning at all.

The positives

IMHO, this bike delivers much more than what one pays for. My riding is exclusively out of town. Many trips to Coimbatore and back, Yercaud and back, a couple of trips to Bengaluru and back, and, most importantly, the "keep me sane" rides that I do 4 days a week, have been total bliss.

I don't ride slow, I don't go howling down the highway at unmentionable speeds either, but, I ride fast. I have been getting an average of 26 kmpl which I am very happy with. I fill up on XP 95 exclusively with the odd tankful of Speed or Power 95.

Conclusion

This beautiful machine,my Thar Diesel RWD and my Psychiatrist,in no particular order of importance, are totally responsible for my sanity after my personal loss.

I owe all three my mental health and happiness

Attaching some pictures of the journey along with.

Cheers

Hi Rajeev

Wanted to ask how was the PUC performed.
I had taken my Super meteor 650 for PUC testing sometime back last year. And since the testing centers have only one probe ,what they did was put the probe in one silencer .
For the other silencer they kept it plugged with cloth holding with hand, completely blocking the exhaust of other silencer.

Is this the right procedure ???

Kindly share your inputs please.Other members input will also help.

Thanks

I have done the PUC test twice. This one and the previous one. The probe was placed in one exhaust. The other exhaust was NOT plugged as done for you. I am sure that the plugging process is not necessary.

Both my tests were done at different centres.

Hope this helps.

I have done PUC testing multiple times for my interceptor in different testing centers in Bangalore in the past few years. Not once they plugged the other silencer. The probe is placed in any one of the silencers and the testing is done.

Reading in one silencer has been the norm in India from the time Pollution control was introduced in India. I have a 1985 Rajdoot RD350 and have been getting PUC Certificate from Circa 1990. The bike has a twin cylinder twin exhaust engine. They always have been placing the probe at random in any one of the silencers and take the reading

Strangely even abroad they follow the same process on twin cylinder, twin exhaust engines like Triumph Bonneville. However, in Bonnie there's and inter connection between the bend pipes, around the CAT converter area just before the muffler, and hence, presumed that value in both silencers/mufflers would be identical.

I am not sure how the exhaust system of Int 650 is designed.

Best Regards & Ride Safe

I have a strange observation to share as well. Recently I went to get my Street Twin's PUC done and after seeing my twin exhaust the staff said he wouldn't do it. When I asked him why, he checked whether it was BS4 or BS6. When I told him it was BS4 he proceeded to check so I asked him what happens to BS6 engines and he said that will require two probes. I went about my business thinking maybe this guy is just fooling people.
