Smart pricing?

I think Yamaha didnt want to play the value game and compete with the other highly competent motorcycles in the Rs 1 lakh and above price segment and hence deliberately priced themselves at a premium. The Rs 3,000 difference with the R15 V3 (which comes with dual channel ABS), actually makes the R15 appear to be a much better VFM deal. Im sure many would be further swayed the R15 way after going and seeing both bikes side by side in a Yamaha showroom. If they can afford the R15 and want something different from the Yamaha showroom, the MT15 is there.

Its not the strategy I would have chosen at this stage but I suppose there is some logic to prioritizing profits per bike over volumes. It will put less of a load on the Yamaha SVC network as well. Win - win for Yamaha?

The bike looks like nothing on Indian roads! Properly sharp, properly Japanese! It could be a hit or a miss with the aam-junta but I'm sure, college kids will be impressed! Pricing is really ambitious. I really wish this comes in the 300cc avatar, not a big fan of the current MT-03 face.

The Apache RtR200 and R15 v3 look so vfm now. I had high expectations on this launch but the single channel ABS is a deal breaker to me.

Sorry Yamaha, I am going elsewhere.

MT15 A miserable disappointment. The price, the lack of features, not so good looks, puny pillion sums the package. Can't comprehend why Yamaha did this to themselves.

I'm disappointed with the pricing. I was expecting something within 1.20Lakh Ex-Showroom. The bike looks stunning for sure but a 3K difference? Is the dual channel ABS of R15 and the fairing worth only a mere 3K? This bike seems like a pseudo race machine. Most people use 150cc bikes for commuting and something which this machine isn't meant for. The gearbox and engine may be tuned for low-end performance but it would make sense to go for the FZ25 at this price point. It has a higher capacity engine, delivers more power like a street fighter, costs less and not to mention more fuel efficient.

I have this notion that Yamaha has actually stopped delivering decent bikes in India post the RD350 failure. There's not a single Yamaha bike which isn't detuned or underpowered in comparison to it's international spec. They did the same with MT15 and priced it high, expecting it to live on the name like it did with FZ and R15 (it will; believe me).

re: Scoop! Yamaha MT15 spotted testing in India EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 1,36,000 (ex-showroom)

Single channel ABS is an outright downer. I just completed a bike trip through majuli in assam on a loaned R15 v3, prospective buyers should absolutely go for the faired offering. If we ride at the right posture it's not that challenging to move around as much as I had expected. The only concern is the pillion and I think the MT-15 will not fare any better at this.

Still cannot go over the fact that all of Yamaha's low capacity naked bikes looks somewhat similar to an fz 15. Besides the gossips going around the web remarks that india got the empty-15 as compared to the international spec MT-15.

Yamaha should learn from Kawasaki which is bringing it's latest models without any detuning or changes. Infact, ninja 400 here comes with full 49 ps against 45 ps in European version.

Yamaha could have just given those FAT USD forks on the MT15 .. and price it at PAR with the R15

..I am sure people would have been just fine with ABS being single channel or the swingarm a box section.

For proof : It's the Artificial Muscles of the FZ which sells doesn't it?

For sure. I think an ex-showroom price of 1.36L deserved the USD over the conventional ones. Single Channel ABS isn't an issue unless the rider is inexperienced. The swingarm is just fine TBH. It's a cost-cutting measure but isn't a real bummer. And yes, those the plastic artificial muscles are what sell FZ, so the same will happen for MT. People tend to pay a ridiculous amount for the plastics.

People will get a lot more plastic on the R15V3 for just 4k more. It's a lot more PFM.

re: Scoop! Yamaha MT15 spotted testing in India EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 1,36,000 (ex-showroom)

MT-15 have started off decently, impressive if compared to the likes of Hornet/X-Blade, selling a total of 5203 units in its first month of launch (March 2019). It has even outsold the Duke 125 which sold only 3069 units. However, its faired sibling R15 has sold almost double the number of MT-15, at 9503 units, in fact, sales of R15 has increased compared to last month, may be due to the fact that it appears VFM when compared to MT-15.

SOLD to "dealers". These are wholesale numbers. NOT retail numbers

The real "demand/supply" picture emerges only after about 1-2 years.

re: Scoop! Yamaha MT15 spotted testing in India EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 1,36,000 (ex-showroom)

Ive seen a grand total of 1 MT 15 on Cochin's roads so far. The new R15 V3 is selling much more over here. Maybe being sandwiched between the KTM Duke 125 and 200 while being priced closer to the 200, doesnt help matters for the MT 15 as well. The Duke brand is very established by now and is rock strong especially in states like Kerala when many young riders are enthusiasts.

Overall, the move to launch the MT 15 seems to be more of a Yamaha India management tick mark than an actual pursuit of chasing big revenues.
