Re: Reviving the legend - My Yamaha RX100

Hi I'm trying to make an ebike and for the same I have used an old RX100 as the doner bike. I have no sense on how to work on bikes but hopefully my simple build will be possible by my FNG.

My question is I realise the RX100 has 18inch wheels but my hub motor rims are 17inches, will I be able to adjust/downsize them? Everything is being built up from scratch, the bike I believe only has a decent frame.

Why castrate a classic? if possible, restore it and use a common motorcycle for your project.

I second the below comment. If you are keen on the classic looks, you may look at options like Boxer or even a Crux

Keep the 17" with hub motor, changing that will impact the wheel end torque. Front wheel you can live with the stock 18" or downsizing to 17" is not a big deal. I forgot the compatible spokes to fix 17" rim on RX hub (M80 spokes I hope, I may be wrong)

Re: Reviving the legend - My Yamaha RX100

My priced possession, a 1986 Yamaha Rx100 is due for renewal of fitness in October 2021. I am worried about renewal of my 35 year old beauty due to absence of accredited testing centers licensed to certify the fitness according to recently amended rules. Another issue compounding my voes is that the validity of RTO documents have been extended up to 30 September 2021 pan India from onset of covid in March 2020. That means there will be a backlog of one and a half years and large number of vehicles would suddenly need re-registration in October provided the RTO offices become fully functional by that time. I would greatly appreciate any latest news or inputs from members of the forum in this regard and anyone here facing the same predicament?
I am aware that this issue is not specific to Rx100 and request the moderators to shift the post to any other suitable thread if necessary

There is no "backlog" as such, the extension has only been provided for the benefit of the public. The RTOs have been open since lockdown was lifted, and re-registration has been going on all this while.
Also, the validity of documents has been extended up to 31st October 2021.
Don't worry about all this, just go ahead with the process, it should be fine. I have my bike's re-registration coming up in March 2022, so will start the process in January 2022 itself (you can do it 60 days before expiry).

Thanks for your reassuring words. As you predicted the re-registration process went quite smooth and my boy got another lease of life, 5 more years. Sharing with you all a picture of my 35 year old boy after the test on a wet morning last week and yet another one with his younger sibling. They serve me quite well to quench my thirst for the thrill on two wheels albeit being on the wrong side of fifties

Glad to know it went well. Lovely bikes you have there; that's my dream two-wheeler garage

Re: Reviving the legend - My Yamaha RX100

My Rx 100 is throwing morning tantrums in cold start in the morning .
It needs multiple jerks to keep the engine started .
After warming up the starting trouble goes off till the next cold start.
The mechanic who restored it says that the culprit is after market non OEM carburator.
Moreover the mileage is pathetic and hovers around 24kmpl.
Help and advice urgently required.
