I want a DIY Motorcycle Lift

Hi all,

I am contemplating building a full size motorcycle scissor Lift, Two things needed is a frame and a Hydraulic ram.

The frame designs are almost finalized only thing pending is the Ram choice, There was another option of using a Car jack instead of the ram but car Jacks are expensive and if we do not use it regularly the oil seals give away.

My question is does anyone have any suggestions on the hydraulic Ram design? I cannot use an air ram because its going to be setup in my home garage and I don't intend to use a compressor.

Best solution for a light duty cycle lift is a (motorised) scissor screw lift. No seals to leak and maintenance free apart from lubing the screw.

You will need reduction gearing and an old pump motor, apart from the screw mechanism which can also be handcranked like a jack.

This is probably the cheapest motorcycle lift, materials required wood and a trolley jack.

Plan is to use Steel structure with Aluminium chequered board as the base. I like the trolley jack idea, the cost of procuring a jack and the chances of it going bad was the only downside.

re: I want a DIY Motorcycle Lift

I have heard from a very reputable tire shop that also does motorcycle tires that these guys are awesome - https://www.flyjacks.com/?v=c86ee0d9d7ed

They are based out of Kerala and ship internationally. I understand that you are looking for a DIY solution, but perhaps this would help you with some ideas.

Their lifts are too small, plus they are expensive. I will try to get a hydraulic ram if not a trolley jack and the design will be similar to the one posted above by Sanker.

Pramod, you might want to check this out

https://www.indiamart.com/proddetail...237216091.html

There are lifts available from around INR 15K onwards. This with a trolley jack should do the job.

Reputed india based manufacturers products with lift capacity from 350 onwards are avilable in the market @ 45K for the bench only - hydraulic pump cost will be extra

Best Regards & Ride Safe

Thanks for the link, The prices are really worth considering. My plan is also to check these vendors and I am also considering used, I am hoping that I can buy the material and build if for the sheer pleasure of DIY.

Actually this is a very lean design, I like it. Can you post some detailed pics here to show how it works? Also i assume it lifts the bike 15" above the ground, that wont cut it. I need the bike to be at least 1M above the ground.

It is a short lift. Not a tall one.

Re: I want a DIY Motorcycle Lift

HI Guys,

Updates, I have finalized my design after some research.

What you see is a rough schematics, My idea is to rent a welder and do tac welding and get a professional welder to complete the rest.

I have not really finalized the mechanism to lift it. I am more lean towards using linear Actuators(ones used for gates)

The budget is around 10K, lets see if it can be achieved.

I am also looking at used ramps

Well, "monstrosity" is not what I call it. Yes its an Alta Redshift SM. My secondary bike and local vehicle. Used to work for Alta Motors and made these bikes. (Better pic below). Roughly 80km range and quicker than most gas bikes.
