Rumour: Bajaj Pulsar 180 discontinued

According to a media report, Bajaj Auto has discontinued the Pulsar 180. The semi-faired Pulsar 180F which was launched earlier this year is likely to take the place of the standard Pulsar 180.

The Pulsar 180 features the classic Pulsar looks with its familiar fuel tank design, headlamp housing and a narrow tail section. It is powered by a 178.6cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces 16.76 BHP @ 8,500 rpm and 14.22 Nm of torque @ 6,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

The Pulsar 180 comes with telescopic suspension at the front and has twin rear shock absorbers. Braking is handled by 260 mm and 230 mm discs at the front and rear respectively.

The Pulsar 180F uses the same engine and comes with a similar suspension and brake setup. It is likely to get ABS in the near future.

About time, the current gen unfaired 180 came out in 2006, a few months after i bought my previous gen 180.

I can't imagine any other bike having such a long product cycle.

Re: Rumour: Bajaj Pulsar 180 discontinued

RIP Pulsar 180!This was my first bike, way back in 2008 and for close to 60k on road price, it was a steal by today's standard. I had a second generation All Black Pulsar 180 which had some cosmetic changes over the first generation(Minor tank design change, small fairing for the instrument console, alloy wheels) for 4 years and 35k kilometers and had a blast on it!

I am/was really thankful to Bajaj for bringing affordable higher capacity bikes for regular Joes like me, in-spite of all the criticism on the overall quality of the bike, the service and the likes.

Re: Rumour: Bajaj Pulsar 180 discontinued

Goodbye Pulsar 180! I am sure you will be missed. I have one of the first 180 (first gen with round headlamps) that came out in late 2001 in Bombay. Still have it though, and it is going strong. It sure had its share of faults but the original Pulsar series put a whole load of us on path of performance biking for not so much money. I paid around 66K back then...
I have upgraded my bike with the complete rear end of the Ug3 (swingarm, chainset, suspension and alloy wheels) which totally transformed the bike.

cheers

Re: Rumour: Bajaj Pulsar 180 discontinued

The Pulsar 180 DTSi (first gen, steel wheels but with a fairing) was my first proper bike. When I bought it in 2004, I was crazy over it and loved it till 2011 when I sold it.

There was never a dull moment with that bike. Those were the days of huge arguments with friends over which one was better. The Karizma or the P180 DTSi. The Twin Spark Ignition was absolutely revolutionary when it came out and I remember reading many articles in the magazines of that era about it.

I even modified my bike slightly with a K&N Air filter and a Tectrac Racing exhaust and loved the sound of it (the older me would have got annoyed with the noise on long rides!)

Special memories and this thread revives a lot of them for me.

Ohh...you too were part of the clan, me too, but I got mine [the same model] on 4-11-'03 and sold it in '07 and moved to the Karizma-R and I can say, the Karizma was a faster bike .

Specially for you

Re: Rumour: Bajaj Pulsar 180 discontinued

This feels like the end of an era. My cousin bought the first gen P180 back in 2001, switching from his LML energy. He modded it into the faired DTSi model and added the UG-III stuff into it. Late in 2010, the bike was de-commissioned. The 180 hasn't been doing well and they incorporated a lot of parts from the 180 into the 150 Twin Disc, which has been their bread and butter ever since the Pulsar twins were launched. The HF 180 is a good move to sell the 180 but I'm yet to see how much can they last. A new source indicates that the DTSi models are not BS-VI complaint, so I wonder what will be the case.

Re: Rumour: Bajaj Pulsar 180 discontinued

My current ride is a 2011 UG4 Pulsar 180 which is still going strong at 67K on odo and will be completing 8 years next month. Costed me INR 76,500 on road during the purchase.

Except for changing the chain sprockets 3 times and front disc brake assembly change, there has been no major expenses other than the periodic maintenance services which will cost around 1K.

Kudos to Bajaj for launching these affordable Pulsar series way back in 2001 which took the market by storm and made Bajaj what it is now.

RIP Pulsar 180, you will be remembered.

Re: Rumour: Bajaj Pulsar 180 discontinued

Oh god these guys at Bajaj are just tossing coins on Pulsar brand. They either discontinue or reintroduce or keep swapping parts from other models and call it upgrade. Pulsar has been the same for decades and its high time they upgrade it from ground up. They’re comfortable with engine swaps from KTM.

This should take head on with Honda Hornet which is an 184cc masquerading as 200cc class bike.

Re: Rumour: Bajaj Pulsar 180 discontinued

Just got back home to Bangalore after more than 7 months. Wasn't expecting the bike P180 (2008, 62k km) to start, but crazily enough it did after a few kicks! Battery is dead of course, but it started. (There's no way my other bike, an RE, would do that. That one, I wouldn't even try after just a month of not using it! )

Was looking to replace the Pulsar with an e-scooter soon, since it's my commuter bike. But after this, am rethinking- it does the job great as a commuter- no fuss, easy maintenance.
