Re: Review: Bounce self-drive scooter rentals

I've shifted to Bangalore a month back for my job, used the Bounce service 9 times.
Initially, I was loving the service with few hiccups. Most of the scooters had less than 1000kms on the ODO. 7 out of 9 scooters didn't have helmet in them, it was fine by me as I always carry my own helmet. Few of them were not maintained well and didn't have mirrors, I honestly don't expect them to be perfectly maintained as different people ride the scooters and most of them ride rash as the scooters don't belong to them.
Now there was a time when the fuel was low, I had to fill up the scooter and mailed them the receipt picture, I got the refund within the next day. All this was manageable.

The horrible experience started when I once booked the scooter from my office, near Koramangala. The location of the scooter according to Bounce app was 5mins from my current location. I followed the location on the map, and it took me to a secluded location which was a garbage dump. As I reached the location, I came around 2 young guys who were drunk and were looking at me suspiciously. I was certainly scared, but started looking for the scooter as the app showed it was just nearby. To my horror, there was no scooter to be found amidst the garbage trucks. I decided not to look further and leave the place. Thankfully, while I was coming out of that place, an old lady directed me towards a short cut which would take me to the main road. I had a sigh of relief as I came out to the busy street.

The second bad experience was when I booked a scooter which had low fuel level. The app directed me to fuel up the scooter, which would be refunded back to me after the end of the trip. I fueled up, took a picture of the bill along with the ODO meter as per their guidelines. Before ending the trip, I tried to upload the bill, but the bounce app was not allowing me to upload the same. It kept flashing that I can not upload the bill as the trip has ended. But the trip was in progress, I didn't end it. Called up the customer care, they advised me to take a screenshot of the current screen as trip timer was visible, which stated that the trip hasn't ended yet. They advised me to mail them the whole issue along with the screenshot and bill. Since then, it has been more than 10 days and I haven't yet received my refund. I've called up the customer care more than 3 times and every time they would assure I'll be getting the refund back in another 24 hours, but all in vein.
I've stopped using bounce after this incident.

Feel bad seeing the vandalism on these bikes. Cops should catch this gang, who are disrupting a genuine service provider. It's no longer just helmets getting filched! Feel for them

Re: Review: Bounce self-drive scooter rentals

Booked Bounce last weekend and this scooter was Bluetooth enabled.

Book via app, once booking confirmed App requests to turn ON Blutooth. Navigate to scooter and BT connects to OBDII when in proximity.
Now user can use app to trigger a buzzer to locate/identify scooter, Start/End trip, Lock/Unlock Scooter and to unlock the underseat storage too.

Instead of Numerical Keypad at keyslot here there is a Metal button to ON/OFF and a similar button to unlock underseat storage.

A metal guard is provided at fuel Inlet to prevent fuel theft.

ODO showed just 180KM but helmet was not available.

Re: Review: Bounce self-drive scooter rentals

I thank the service provider of bounce for the excellent service they have provided. Hoping that there will be many more bounces. Along with all advantages mentioned in these posts - we also get to sample the Scooty Zest+. After riding around in a Scooty Zest+ I've started recommending the same to others.

Some of the scooters do need some maintenance, but overall it is convenient.

The only thing I feel is an area of improvement is in the mirrors. Atleast 90% of bounce scooters (and all that I have rode) - do not have the mirrors. And in Bangalore, you do need the mirrors.

Re: Review: Bounce self-drive scooter rentals

I have used boune twice, the first time the bike ran out of Fuel near Hebbal flyover, I pushed the bike to the service road and parked it, away from traffic. Second time, I was unable to get Uber/Ola to the railway station, luckily found a bounce with fuel in in.

The vandalism seems to be continuing unabated, scooters belonging to Bounce are dumped all over the city

Mirrors are stolen, guess needs to come up with some locking mechanism where mirrors cannot be removed.

We live in a country where people dont spare a mug from railway toilets
its very very difficult to offer a service in india by assuming a decent/responsible behavior from general public.
In Pune many bicycle service providers stopped their operation as most of their cycles were destroyed by public.

Re: Review: Bounce self-drive scooter rentals

I liked the idea of rent-a-scooter on point A to point B basis. I guess, I was too optimistic. Less than a year into its existence, it is turning out to be nuisance to other motorists and pedestrians.

Parking:
Where do I start? They are parked anywhere and everywhere. Middle of the flyover, Right most lane on busy main road, middle of the underpass, right at the mouth of a turning, carelessly parked obstructing other 2 wheelers, Next to no-parking signs, next to police stations, blocking hospital entry, in front of entry/exit gates and drive ways.

If I see a bounce scooter parked right in the middle of a railway track, then I will say I have seen it all.

Whoever envisaged this parking nightmare must be named and shamed. Traffic cops take away many bounce bikes and the company I think will pay fines (investor's money) - no big deal for them - but what about citizens' inconvenience and safety hazards? Afterall, they are using public roads.

Vehicle Condition:

Most users of bounce are reporting that they have pathetically maintained bikes. Bikes with no fuel, dead battery, faulty bikes, under-inflated tyres, flat tyres, non-working lights, mirror absent (This is true for all bounce bikes).

Well funded startup Bounce can pay fines and get away from the law, but there is no penalty for the wholesale nuisance these unruly riders are causing. Company is OK to lose money but citizens are losing peace of mind so that Bounce can continue its business.

In my area, cops remove all two wheelers except the Bounce bikes. Additionally, Bounce have designated some no parking areas as parking lots to park the bikes. I get the feeling there is an "arrangement" for this.

As for Bounce paying fines - Penalties are meant to deter or punish. In this case, it is misused as mere cost of doing business.

VOGO is a lot more civilised. Proper parking areas etc.

Re: Review: Bounce self-drive scooter rentals

Saw a bounce truck (flat bed type truck which is used to haul cars) picking up the parked bounce scooters near my place on 31st OR 1st. They already had some 4-5 of them on the truck. The truck will have to struggle to reach out to these scooters in narrow streets. I have seen people even parking the scooters inside their compound once.

Its time for Bounce to define designated places, like Vogo, to drop off these bikes in each locality instead of allowing the riders park them haphazardly anywhere they wish.

Re: Review: Bounce self-drive scooter rentals

During my 45 days stay in bangalore till date used the Bounce scooter 10 times ot of which 5 trips were very satisfactory which means the scooter was found at the exact location as seen in the maps, had OVRM's, tank full, helmet inside. Rest did not have all complete set with either one or two items missing. In one case the scooter did not have the left brake arm at all. In one case the location showed the scooter but the area around the scooter was fenced.

Finding a Bounce scooter is a very cumbersome process when actually reqd other wise I could see them alongside the roads in all wrong places.

Any other alternative to Bounce? Where I can book the scooter for longer duration say 3-4 hrs for myself instead of surrendering the vehicle.

Re: Review: Bounce self-drive scooter rentals

Feeling bad for these startups.

The culprits were first removing the batteries itseems. These companies should come up with a GPS system sealed into the battery casings, which will trigger vandalization alerts whenever attempts were made to disconnect battery from the scooter.

Re: Review: Bounce self-drive scooter rentals

I see these bounce scooters parked at very dangerous spots on Bangalore roads. Many may have even caused accidents.
Eg. Bounce scooters parked along wall of a flyover , bounce scooter parked at a sharp turn which will take any motorist by surprise.
I think Bounce should invest heavily on security systems instead of buying new feet and handing it over to some miscreants out there.

Re: Review: Bounce self-drive scooter rentals

Saw this last week when I went out cycling. Fuel tanks were dry for sure. Saw a few more vehicles with their wheels nicked off. Really sad to see people misusing this.
