Ather Energy will be introducing both the 450 and the 340 e-scooters in Chennai. The company will be setting up Ather Grid - public charging infrastructure at places like cafes, malls, tech-parks, gyms in the city. For the first 6 months, all EV users will be able to use Ather Points to charge their vehicles for free.

Teasers have begun on Social media

YouTube

Twitter, Facebbok and Instagram

Looking at these, I guess the event will be held at Marina beach

Lot of Ather's development has been done in Chennai IIT. So it was clear that it would be launched in Chennai soon. I'm interested to see the response in Chennai. Especially with the lack of clarity on FAME II although I'm sure it'll be sorted out by June.

Ather Energy installing fast charging network in Chennai

Ather Energy is setting up its fast charging network called Ather Grid in Chennai. The company plans to install 50-55 Ather Grid points across the city by the end of this year.

Ather Grid can be used by all electric 2-wheelers and 4-wheelers. The charging facility will be offered for free till the end of this year.

Ather Energy has partnered with cafes, restaurants, tech parks, malls and gyms to install charging points. The company has already installed seven fast charging points in Chennai. These are located at Forum Vijaya mall, AtWorks and Bikes and Burgers among other restaurants.

Electric vehicle owners will be able to locate and check availability of the nearest charging stations in real-time using the Ather Grid app.

Chennai is the second city after Bangalore to get the Ather Grid fast charging network. The company plans to set up 6,500 charging points across the country by 2022.

Someone needs to ask Ather, how this is possible because of their custom charging pin (Ather's charging connectors are incompatible with other EVs) that is incompatible with other vehicles.

Using this generic point -

Although they can as well connect to any other normal plug point instead.

Now we're able to see the charging points on the Athergrid App.

Like CrAzY dRiVeR has written, charging of all non-Ather EVs can be done using the standard 5A/15A socket. One thing to note however is that this socket is present only on Public charging points and not prsent in the home charging points.
Read this below post of mine where I'd put my E2O+ for charging at the Ather experience centre...

re: Ather Energy launches e-scooters in Chennai

I think Ather needs to speed up their launches in other cities otherwise by the time it's available in the major cities, it will already be an almost "obsolete" product since it has one foot in the digital/electronic realm which changes at a faster rate.

Ultraviolette also has a scooter coming up ! Will be interesting to see how they stack up against each other. They have TVS backing them up and might also help in manufacturing. But Ather has a leg up being early to market and they need to ramp up production.

re: Ather Energy launches e-scooters in Chennai

Ather has organised an event this weekend for people in Chennai who had expressed pre-order interest.

A video shared on their forum is below

Attendees at the event can not only test ride and pre-order the scooter before everybody else in Chennai, but also get an opportunity to meet with Ather owners from Bangalore. For this event, Ather is taking along some Ather Owners from Bangalore along with their scooters and also organising a group ride in Chennai. I'm also part of the group and will be in the event with my scooter! They've taken care of travel, accommodation and vehicle logistics for us. They have informed that the group ride would cover some important landmarks of Chennai. Looking forward to the ride.

Thanks. We are not riding from Bangalore to Chennai (except one adventurous guy) . The vehicles will be transported by Ather through a logistics company.
