TVS developing new 310cc motorcycle under BMW alliance. To be launched in FY20

According to media reports, TVS Motor Company has confirmed a new product being developed under the BMW alliance to be launched this financial year.

Quote:
KN Radhakrishnan, President, CEO & Additional Whole-Time Director, TVS Motor Company, said,

“Both the BMW products are doing extremely well, and the market acceptance of these products are very good. Now [our recent] product is also doing well. We are coming up with another model. Closer to launch there, [we can share] what exactly is the model."

Speculated to be a naked version of the Apache RR310, likely to be christened the RTR 310 - the bike could share mechanicals with the existing platform vehicles like the G310R.

A reveal is expected at the Delhi Auto Expo next year.

Re: TVS developing new 310cc motorcycle under BMW alliance. To be launched in FY20

It was only a matter of time before which the BMW TVS partnership expanded to more motorcycles on the joint platform. The naked RTR 310 seems like a logical extension of the Apache brand but it will compete head on with the BMW 310R which would further diminish the sales of the entry level BMW. When we consider the quality issues that have plagued the BMW 310s which are not replicated in the TVS 310RR, the last thing that BMW would need is a cut price and better styled version of its 310R.

The next logical option is the Zepellin which as a product would fall safely in the BMW TVS offering list. Im far from a technical guy but the reverse inclined architecture of the 310 platform seems at odds with the prototype displayed earlier. Would it be tough for TVS to engineer it with a new / modified chassis of the Zepellin?

The Zepellin certainly would take the fight to the Bajaj Dominar 400 which has been recently revised and hopefully can pull in respectable sales figures. I suspect the TVS Zepellin might come in at a price higher than the Bajaj Dominar 400 but it should lead to a packed segment in the Rs 1.5 L to Rs 2 L price bracket.

I had a word with one of the guys at the TVS SVC's regarding this bike. He said it would indeed be a naked version of the RR310. He also added that the bike is almost ready for launch, and that there is a delay only due to the BS-VI emission factors for which they need to update the engine. He also mentioned early 2020 as the probable launch time-frame.

Sounds a good concept - but the TVS guys explanation doesn't really cut it.

The RR310 which is compliant with all current emission norms is on sale now and a naked version with no changes to the engine (or after treatment) should be good to go now as well!

A lower priced naked version would give sales a definite boost.

I agree that the engine on the RR310 is compliant with the current emission norms. But from the company's point of view, I don't think it would make sense to launch the naked version now and then launch an updated (BS-VI emission compliant) model a few months down the line.

TVS releases new teaser of their upcoming motorcycle.
Quote says "Crafted to be invisible" . Looks like an "Apache RR200" or an updated version of RR310.
