Re: TVS Apache RR 310 getting performance upgrades for free

apparently it is just a new color, carbon edition to be precise. Will be interesting to see if they give it some upgrades, maybe a slipper clutch?

Re: TVS Apache RR 310 getting performance upgrades for free

Personally I was hoping for a white color option. And if they are updating the bike then why not add a slipper clutch, better seat and adjustable levers while they're at it.

re: Updated Apache RR310 to be unveiled on May 28, 2019. Edit: RR310 RT launched with slipper clutch

The curious case of the flagship Apache RR310 that technology wise maybe isnt the real flagship in the TVS stable. We are all so used to hearing of technology trickling down from the flagship products of car manufacturers to their mid priced and then lower priced offerings. Its the way the automobile industry works. With TVS though, and I suspect this is more to do with the TVS - BMW partnership constraints than anything else, right now the excellent RTR 200 4V Race Edition 2.0 (logical name but couldnt they make it any longer??) has the best technology on offer from the Hosur based manufacturer.

If I remember correctly, TVS were the first ones to introduce ABS in this segment. Coming to the RTR 200 4V Race Edition 2.0, the bike offers
- A-RT (Anti Reverse Torque) Slipper Clutch
- Rear wheel Lift-off Protection which sounds like anti stoppie technology
- Excellent colour schemes, Ive seen the bike in person and it looks so much better than the equivalents from Bajaj and others.

The new Apache RR310 will probably have these technologies move up from the 200 4V and hopefully TVS adopts the grey paint scheme, if not the white as well. It has the proportions to pull it off for sure. This will make the RR310, an even better proposition than what it already is.

The only people who will be left unhappy with this possible RR310 upgrade - BWM. Their problematic and expensive 310 twins will look like even less sensible buys now. Funny how the relationship has played out in the end.

Would be nice if they also surprise-reveal a single-R version that is upright and unfaired, priced about the same as the RR. Going along the same naming lines of s1000r and s1000rr. Such a bike would be killer, and give the Dukes a run for their money.

Though that would surely be amazing and it wouldn't cost a bomb in separate R&D as well because the bike would basically be the same, but this is wishful thinking. I'd like them to bring a naked version too but seeing the sales for the rr310 I'd be happy even if they continue with the lineage and bringing facelifts.

Methinks it would be a fallacy though, to judge a naked version's potential based on RR sales.
The RR requires a committed sporty riding posture and a near-unusable pillion.
It basically means it is mainly for single riders, typically college-going kids, but with a relatively high budget compared to the Pulsars and Apaches of the world.

An upright with a usable seat though, at a reasonable price point would be an attractive offering going head-to-head with the Duke 250 in terms of price. Its target would be more of a salaried IT employee who uses it for commute + family duty + spirited riding all at the same time. My hunch is that bikes like the G310, Ninjas are not doing well just because of the way they are priced. They are simply worth a lot less than is being asked. Something just around the 2-lakh mark would be the sweet spot.

I know, the Dukes aren't exactly setting the sales charts on fire either, but I expect such a bike would do a lot better than RR / RC type of bikes.

re: Updated Apache RR310 to be unveiled on May 28, 2019. Edit: RR310 RT launched with slipper clutch

Launched with Slipper clutch and in a new phantom black shade. It's 3000 rupees expensive. Dhoni is the first owner. Named Apache RR310 RT

The slipper clutch can be retro fitted to old bikes, which is good.

Which is excellent! A good gesture from TVS, even if this is a paid option for existing customers.

Thankfully, they've also upgraded Mahendra Singh Dhoni's TVS Star City to Apache RR310 RT!

If you ask me, Dhoni should endorse Star City as he has mass appeal. He belonged there. RR310 can either have an international racer or they could develop a 'high-concept', without a celebrity face. Strictly my two-bits.

MS Dhoni still endorses the Star City and as Sebring rightly mentioned, his mass appeal is the right fit for that product. I think Dhoni has just bought the Apache RR 310 RT as a customer and is not endorsing it. TVS did a smart thing by publicizing the fact that Dhoni wanted one.

Onto the RR 310 RT, its a great move by TVS to offer the slipper clutch on older bikes as well. These are the moves that keep early adopters happy and loyal to the brand.

Dhoni has had bikes like the Kawasaki Ninja H2, Hellcat, etc. Are we seriously believing that he (also being the company brand ambassador) went and bought an Apache RR310 as a customer?

This is the same marketing strategy as partner BMW who has been 'selling' their 310s to stars - Yuvraj, Ganguly etc.

Re: Updated Apache RR310 to be unveiled on May 28, 2019. Edit: RR310 RT launched with slipper clutch

Whatever they launch, is not going to be a huge hit like that of Dominar or any other bike for that matter with this horrible freedom that TVS gives its dealership. Let me explain:

Last Saturday, I wanted to see the potential replacements for my 200NS (though it has just 20K kms). Went to Ramkay TVS (Adyar, Chennai) and their answer was they don't sell the bike. On probing further, they said they weren't interested in the bike so they don't sell. As per their suggestion, reached Brilliant TVS (Mandaveli, Chennai) and received the exact same response.

Dropped the plan of RR310 completely - these dealers won't even service the bike it seems. This type of freedom is wrong for the business. I would understand if it was a setup like Maruti's Nexa or Bajaj's KTM showrooms.
