Re: Scoop! Bajaj Urbanite scooter caught testing in Pune

Chetak Chick?. Hmm. I don't think Bajaj themselves would prefer that name, If in fact they have already named it urbanite. Chetak name would bring to mind that stepney totting, tilt 10 degrees to kick start , twist-your-ankle-bone-to -reach- the- foot-brake, man spread-to -sit -in pillion fame old mules which were part of a traditional dowry system.

From the looks of it, it looks close to the activa / jupiter breeds. To me, unless the specs are out and reviews are given, it would be too early to place bets.

Indeed! Looks possible; this is something I found on YouTube -

Somehow all of this is quite nostalgic and exciting at the same time - nice branding from Bajaj!

An electric scooter is nothing like that , and the target audience is very different. What confuses me even more is the 'Chetak Chic' name. Somehow i feel that name wont appeal to the youth or to the older generation.
Regarding your first point, I think Bajaj feels if 'Vespa' can have success tapping into the neo-retro theme, they should be able to pull some heart-strings with Chetak. (See the quote from nishsingh below)

However, I am with you regarding the second point, 'Chic' comes across as tacky IMO and may not be appealing to either old or younger folks.

I feel the name Chetak should be used for a design which looks retro but has modern engineering. If it looks similar to Jupiter it won't, work I feel.

Re: Scoop! Bajaj Urbanite scooter caught testing in Pune

As far as the branding goes, Chetak CE (Chic Electric) should do the trick.

Re: Scoop! Bajaj Urbanite scooter caught testing in Pune

For those who might not know, the Chetak was the ultimate definition of masculinity back in the day with 150 cc two stroke engine. My dad owned one and he was crazy about that scooter, heck even in 2019, we don't have a non-geared 150 cc scooter to talk about. So appending it with 'Chic' just destroys everything, a major turn-off in my opinion.

Anyway, lets see how it turns out, but I am open for an affordable electric scooter which is sturdy, good looking and has a respectable battery capacity for running errands or doing office trips.

I just hope they dont name it Chetak Chic. Chetak is fine. Infact i would prefer something like Chetak Vidyut or Chetak V.

Bajaj Urbanite e-scooter to be launched in phases

According to a media report, the Bajaj Auto's new electric scooter under the Urbanite brand is likely to be launched in a phased manner.

The new electric scooter that is rumoured to be called Chetak Chic Electric is expected to be launched on October 16, 2019. The report suggests that the e-scooter is likely to be launched in Pune and Bangalore in the first phase. It is expected to be launched in other cities in the coming months.

The report states that the Bajaj chose Pune because it is where the company is based and therefore, it would be easier to gauge the market response and fix any issues quickly. Bangalore was chosen as it already has an extensive charging infrastructure in place and is home to Ather Energy - the company that builds the Ather 450 electric scooter, which is expected to rival the Chetak Chic Electric.

Re: Scoop! Bajaj Urbanite scooter caught testing in Pune

A very poor start from Mr Bajaj IMHO - making fun of all the others in the electric vehicle space.

Not something expected from a great speaker as himself.

Edit - All forgotten when 'Hamara Bajaj' started playing on the screen.

Re: Scoop! Bajaj Urbanite scooter caught testing in Pune

Agree with CrAzY dRiVeR that it wasn't a good start making fun of other players in the market. It was unnecessary to be honest.
The most direct dig was against Revolt..."Company who were importing mobiles from China want to REVOLuTionise our roads"

Then the nostalgic strings were plucked with the Hamara Bajaj ad. This should have been the start IMO.

Anyway, the Bajaj Chetak looks good...

Looks nice

Looks heavily inspired by Vespa. Apart from the White and gold options on stage, Silver Blue and Red were the colours seen during the flagging off of scooters for the "Chetak Electric Yatra".
It seems this yatra will see the scooters cover some distance around the country over the next few days

Specs should have been announced before all these speeches and yatra flag-off!

Colour and paint finish looking brilliant.

They announce that after flagoff everyone can comeback for Q&A and then the webcast shows "Thank you for watching the webcast"

Absolutely no further details at all...So this was just a camouflage removal ceremony!!! I had expected a better show from Bajaj...at least after making fun of others!
