Strip a bike to basics, and the difference in cost between a 100cc and 151cc displacement is tiny. It is only when you start upgrading the rest it gets expensive. The old Honda 97cc lump in the Splendor can readily be converted to 160cc - they already are for pit bikes.

Surely Hero could just knock out a low revving longer geared 151cc Splendor with all the rest the same for virtually the same cost as the current model?

Am I missing something?

Ban for something that is as common as commodities doesn't make sense. If you give facility for people to make better choice, given them tax benefits, better infrastructure for charging, encourage R&D related to battery technology to avoid foreign player domination.

No one will buy something that is inferior or expensive, so just making battery powered bikes cheaper and longer running(per charge) we can expect people to ditch ICE powered bikes.

HMSI to skip EV till 2020, reconsidering investment on new capacity, feels electric vehicles is a big challenge for a country like India.

Need to study the consumer expectations and requirements, especially in terms of range.

Despite government’s plan to electrify entire two-wheeler fleet upto 150cc by 2025, the country's second largest manufacturer Honda Motorcycle and Scooters India (HMSI) have decided to give it miss at least till 2020.
