Sahara India Pariwar has entered the automobile sector with its new electric vehicle (EV) brand called Sahara Evols.



Sahara Evols will offer electric scooters, motorcycles, 3-wheelers and cargo vehicles. According to the company, the electric motors and drivetrains used in the brand's products have been developed in Germany. The vehicles are powered by lightweight and portable lithium-ion batteries with fast charging capability. It is claimed to charge up to 40% in 1 hour, which is enough to cover 55-150 km in a single charge depending on the type and category.



The vehicles are equipped with features like GPS tracking system and come with a Sahara Evols mobile app. The app can be used to track the vehicle, request road-side assistance, analyse performance and lock the vehicle. The vehicles also come with a distress alarm and anti-theft alarm

The company claims that the average cost of running their EVs is around 20 paise per km. In comparison, the cost of running a petrol vehicle is Rs. 2 per km.



At present, Sahara Evols' products are available in Lucknow. It has delivered 101 vehicles and is setting up 57 service centres in the Lucknow district. The company plans to expand to Tier II and Tier III cities in India by the end of this fiscal and start pan-India operations in the next financial year. It is also setting up a network of battery charging cum swapping stations.

Seems like Super SOCO bikes are now involved with multiple companies in India.

The Super SOCO TS with Revolt and now here the Super SOCO TC with Sahara.

Very interesting. Anyone know who is the actual manufacturer of these bikes as I'm expecting Super SOCO also as a marketing company and not a manufacturer.

Super SOCO is Chinese electric 2 wheeler startup. They have 2 bikes (TS, TC) and scooter (CUX). They started selling their bikes and scooter in Europe, Austrlia recently. They also partnered with Ducati to release Ducati branded CUX scooter (rebadged).

I wonder if it will be smartphone industry all over again. Initially Micromax, Lava, Karbonn, etc... used to rebadge Chinese smartphones in India. Once the Chinese companies started entering India themselves then these Indian companies had to shut up shop. Sooner or later the Chinese companies like Super SOCO, NIU, etc... will start manufacturing, sales themselves once the EV sales pickup pace. MG motors (SAIC) already announced they will start assembling their first EV car (eZS) in India and launch in Dec, 2019. Great Wall Motors in entering in next 2-3 years and they also have few EV models.

Good point. Thanks for pointing this out! So Sahara Evols is assembling the Chinese product as well. Any idea about the scooters in their range? Prices are announced only for those now.

With all the scams & scandals, Sahara is a bad name now. Why on earth would they launch vehicles under the same brand? And with pictures of its founder (who is out on bail) proudly standing by the vehicles? It just doesn't make any business sense and will kill consumer confidence.

It's almost like Vijay Mallya or Nirav Modi launching a new car / bike in India tomorrow.

I can tell you from very close experience that this is a very egotistical man who makes either his own whimsical decisions or listens to a coterie of "ji huzoors"s. In his mind, he probably feels that he needs to portray himself as being savvy, hence this.
