Ethanol-powered TVS Apache RTR 200 FI E100 launched at Rs 1.20 lakh

Ethanol-powered TVS Apache RTR 200 Fi E100 launched at Rs 1.20 lakh

https://www.autocarindia.com/bike-ne...20-lakh-413447

Intro from the article:
Quote:
TVS has just launched an ethanol-powered variant of the Apache RTR 200 4V and is calling it the Apache RTR 200 Fi E100. Priced at Rs 1.20 lakh, the ethanol-powered Apache 200 Fi E100 is Rs 9,000 more expensive than the petrol-powered 200 4V. TVS has revealed the bike will initially be available only in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka. However, there's a catch. The TVS Apache RTR 200 Fi E100 cannot run on regular petrol. In effect, while you can buy the bike, the fuel to run it on is not available at the moment. First showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo, the RTR 200 Fi E100 is essentially the same as the regular Apache, apart from the fuel it uses and the mechanical changes required to use the same.

Strange, what's the point of launching it if there is no fuel available to run it?

PR for domestic market & I guess bike is actually for export market like Brazil. But there too I doubt if they have E100 refueling outlets.

Exactly my thoughts! Though I'd appreciate TVS for coming up with something new and a bit more environment-friendly, I don't see much significance in this launch apart from the fact that it's a PR exercise. Wonder how the company is going to market it here, if at all they do.

TVS must be exploring ways to make money from carbon credits. I think we can still use petrol in case of non-availability of ethanol

If I'm getting it right, TVS has come up with a bike that doesn't run on available fuel and is costlier than the variant which does.

So I am supposed to spend 1.1 lakhs, tow/push the bike till my parking lot and stare at it till the time ethanol is made available. Good idea

If they launch Ethanol in India, none would be left for the cars/motorcycles! Our people will find a way to bottle and sell it and get drunk!!

Pouring fresh water into our normal E10 based petrol seems to easily seperate that 10% ethanol from petrol.

I guess drinking people are yet to figure out this method

While whole world is running towards electric, this came as a surprise (atleast to me). If ethanol indeed can be produced locally and is Greener, why haven't manufacturers thought about this all this while?

Since it's just 10k above usual petrol version, I guess investment is not as high as electric. Or is it that this setup isn't condusive for bigger vehicles(cars)?

Ethanol may be useful for use in fuel cell vehicles. I do not see them for another decade. So at the moment I treat it as a me-too measure, and no more than that. No fuel pumps, no infrastructure, no nothing.

In other news, TVS, Bajaj, Honda and Hero doesn't have any electric two wheelers on offer.

Can't wait the Government to mandate the fossil fuel emissions out of the legacy laggards.

Did somebody notice that TVS has purposefully launched this Ethanol bike only in the sugar belt states of India?
I wonder if they expect the sugar mills to open up Ethanol Pump counters too.....
