Strange sounds from the Caliber console

Hi All,

I have been facing a strange issue with my Caliber 115 for past 2 days. There is a strange whirring sound from the console. Can't figure out if it is the odometer or the tachometer. All meters are functioning correctly; only the sound drives me crazy.

The sound is very audible and is affecting my concentration. It starts when a speed of 40kmph is reached and the frequency becomes higher as speed goes up. It again becomes silent if I reduce speed to 20kmph.

To make matters worse, the bulbs inside the tacho and fuel gauge are working intermittently today.

HELP!!!

Last night the speedo cable broke and the whirring sound stopped.
Tried getting the cable replaced, only to discover that the meter itself has got jammed.

Went to the meter-walla under Nana Chowk bridge. He agreed to take a look for 150 bucks. The catch .... he will not open the meter... that has to be done by another mechanic. Wonder what the 150 bucks is for?

For now, I am riding with a dysfunctional console. Will look at a couple of other places over the weekend.

All this still does not explain the lights going off.

Can anyone from South Mumbai help?
