They should have tweaked engine and gearing for a better off-road performance. This is the biggest disappointment overall.

I feel Adv 250 will be a better off-road performer than 390. That 44 ps is more than enough power for most folks.

Was pleasantly surprised to see many riders preferring the Himalayan, looks like RE has struck a chord with international motorcyclists as well. If it only had 10-15 bhp more, It could have been THE go-to ADV.

Exactly, A himalayan based on the 650 engine and a tubeless spoke wheel ( a more personal choice, this) and bam, RE has just decimated the entire segment till 5 lakhs

Also I personally think a reason that the adventure looks rather gaudy, like I know that beak is an important part of ADV, but KTM has somehow messed it up

Walk around video from ZigWheels.

Some points compared to 390adv:

1. Misses out on features like quickshifter, Bluetooth connectivity and traction control.
2. Sports a LCD console.
3. Seat height and brakes are similar.
4. 2kg lighter than the 390adv.
5. Halogen Headlights.Wonder why this has the old halogen headlights while the new duke 250 gets LED headlights now?

Funny how the new Ather has more torque than this bad boy. In a hill climb face off my bet would be on the scooter .

Dead silence in this thread. Nobody is interested in this bike?

I happened to visit bannerghata road KTM yesterday but sadly they didn’t have a display vehicle. 390adv is 3.97L OTR as per the SA.

Does Bangalore have a separate tax structure for bikes under 3L ex-showroom compared to ones above it?As per bikewale website GS310 is 3.36 OTR(ex showroom 2.85L, rto tax 38550/- ) but at 3.04L exshowroom 390adv has 61775INR RTO tax. Seems a bit weird

If GS310 is a yardstick, Adventure 250 should be under 3L OTR

Personally I never understood the philosophy of a 250 platform in the first place.

Regardless of Duke or RC or Adv.

Can someone throw some light?

Cheers, Doc

Not sure about KTM but GS for sure doesn't cost 3.36 OTR in Bangalore. Check this post -> Price List 310 Twins

If you have any reliable source on the price which you mentioned, can you please share more details ?

Thanks for this. I was referring to bikewale.com quote.

Their quote for 390 adventure looks close to what showroom guy told me. But GS pricing is way off going by the post in link you shared. So the tax structure seems to be in line for anything above 1L exshowroom. At this rate 250 adventure should be around 3.3-3.4L Bangalore OTR. Damn KA taxes

re: KTM 250 Adventure, launched at Rs. 2.48 lakhs

Apparently, the ex showroom price in KL is Rs 2.52 L and on road price is Rs 3.3L. That is quite frankly ridiculous pricing, it looks as though Bajaj has completely mis-read the market for both the Adv offerings.

Doc, to me the 250 was actually the perfect KTM platform for India but for some inexplicable reason, Bajaj and / or KTM just never fully committed to it. I would put it down to mismanagement and poor product positioning over the years, than anything else.

For a lot of riders, the 200 platform was perfectly fine as an entry into the KTM family but those who wanted more, could have gone for the 250 or the 390. For riders who needed to do the dreary Monday to Friday commute but wanted to have some fun on the weekends, the 250 would have been a very sensible choice. However the 250 was never given ABS for the longest time, which I firmly believe was a strategy by KTM to push buyers to the top of the line 390 instead.

The pricing of the 250 was also middle of the road, in fact looking at the price list one would think for just a little bit more money, I get ABS + a whole lot more power as well.

This was a very short sighted business move because there was nothing left for buyers to upgrade to after a few years of ownership of the 390. Had they given ABS on the 250 and aggressive pricing from day 1, they would have lost out on some 390 sales for a year or two but the 3 model lineup would have sustained for a lot longer from a business perspective.

Bajaj / KTM's decision to go with Today's gain and tomorrow's loss over today's loss and tomorrow's gain, has left the 250 in no man's land.

The 250 was always a no man's land product.

It does not have the outright oomph of the 390 and is overpriced over the 200 for what little it offers over the 200 (not even 5 bhp more for those extra 50 cc ... in terms of bhp per cc that's a VERY un-KTM ratio).

If you ask me, the 250 was a Bajaj idea. Its very typical Indian bike industry salami slicing of 25 to 50 cc increments spawning "new" models.

No way the Austrians thought of it. Its not in their DNA.

Till the 390 came along, the 200 could run rings around most Indian bikes under 400 cc. You did not need a anemic half brother from the litter to do that. And its a MUCH more enjoyable street fighter on Poona roads than the 390 is. Most racer puppies who graduated from the 200 to the 390 still wish they could have kept their baby Dukes.

Cheers, Doc
