According to a media report, Ratan Tata is likely to invest an undisclosed amount in Tork Motors - a Pune-based electric bike start-up.

Tork Motors is developing its first electric bike called the T6X since 2015. The bike could be in its final stages of development as prototypes have been spotted testing on the road.

The Tork T6X is said to be powered by a lithium-ion battery, which is claimed to offer a maximum range of 100 km on a single charge. The company claims that the battery can be recharged to 80% of its capacity in 1 hour. The bike has a claimed top speed of 100 km/h. The T6X also uses Tork Intuitive Response Operating System (TIROS), which compiles and analyses various parameters like power management, real-time power consumption and range forecasts.

In 2016, Tork Motors had secured funding from Bharat Forge and Ola Cabs founder Bhavish Aggarwal.

The last time he invested in a 2-wheeler startup, he made more than 2X his investment (related news).

T6X will be launched initially in Pune and Bangalore by end of 2019 or early 2020. Company is expecting to sell 3,000 to 4,000 units in the first year. It will be completely made in India. T6X is electric equivalent of 200-cc motorcycle and does not compete with Revolt RV400.

I came to this thread only because I saw Mr. Ratan sir’s name. I hope Tork makes a mark for itself in our market good luck Tork. If you’ve Ratan sirs investment coming in, that means you’re heading in the right direction.

Ratan Tata does carry a lot of goodwill... but not everything he touches would turn to gold. Example NANO - Which was an excellent concept but poorly conceived and marketed.

Kind of similar sentiment can be attributed to the Jagdish Khattar's backed project "Carnation".

Agreed. But, I carry a lot of respect for Mr Ratan for a human being he is. Not like any other businessman who is only focused on making fortune after fortune for their own selves, but supports a lot of startups like Tork and does a lot of charity. Yes, it’s part of business to face failure but he’s made us proud in most of the aspects - one such being JLR acquisition he took India to have a reflection in global footprint.

Ratan Tata has invested in couple of dozen companies in the last 2 years and it is just name lending to these start-ups rather than any significant investments.

Re: Ratan Tata to invest in e-bike maker Tork Motors

He is pretty much the prima difference between an industrialist and a businessman, his investments are envisioned for the future, TATA motors are already setting trends with their Tigor EV, Evision concept in the 4 wheeler segment, its only right for them to be supporting a passionate Indian startup and give them the right traction they desperately need.

PS: Its not the first time though, JLR (owned by TATA) have invested in a similar advanced Arc Vector motorcycle company.

Its the perception, rather than numbers.
