At the event, Rajiv Bajaj revealed some very interesting information – the company is working on a performance-oriented version of the Chetak, which will be sold under the KTM or Husqvarna brand. Now KTM is no stranger to high-performance electric two-wheelers. The brand sells the Freeride E-XC – the electronic counterpart of the Freeride 250 R enduro bike – in international markets. And lest we forget, the manufacturer also revealed the E-Speed electric scooter concept at the 2013 Tokyo motor show, whose final product never saw the light of day.

However, KTM is now expected to use the Chetak platform to make its first electric scooter. The Chetak features retro-styling and is powered by a 4kW motor. We can also expect the KTM/Husqvarna iteration of the model to feature a much bolder and sharper design language with better performance; and, most likely, more premium hardware in terms of suspension and brakes.

Bajaj Chetak e-scooter bookings to open in January 2020

According to a media report, Bajaj will start taking bookings for the Chetak e-scooter from January 2020.



The new Chetak is Bajaj's first electric scooter. It features an LED headlamp with an LED daytime running light and vertical turn-indicators mounted on the front apron. It has metal body panels and 12-inch alloy wheels.

The Chetak will come with an IP67 rated lithium-ion battery. It has two riding modes - Eco and Sport and comes with a regenerative braking system.

Rajiv Bajaj Rebukes Tata Design Head Pratap Bose's Critical Statement On New Chetak Electric.

Responding to Pratap Bose's tweet calling the Chetak's design an "opportunity missed," Bajaj MD Rajiv Bajaj said that the Tata Design Head could only speak about the design of the Chetak and not the product as a whole, before taking a dig at Tata's products.

Bajaj also took a dig at the new Tata Harrier TVC that tells viewers about the Land Rover connection with automaker's SUV. Commenting on the TVC, Rajiv Bajaj said that Tata does not have faith in its own design and they need to relate it as Land Rover's poor cousin to sell its products.

Bajaj Chetak warranty, service details revealed

Yesterday, the Chetak Electric Yatra – a 3,000km-long journey that began when the electric scooter was unveiled in Delhi last month – concluded in Pune. Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director, Bajaj Auto, attended the event and we received some more details about the two-wheeler manufacturer's new electric scooter; namely, the maintenance and warranty periods of the Chetak and its battery.

While we await the exact battery specifications, we were told that it has been designed to last 70,000km. The scooter, meanwhile, will come with a three-year/50,000km warranty.

Speaking of the maintenance of the e-scooter, the company-recommended service interval is every 15,000km – which is much further apart than what we see in its petrol-powered counterparts. This is because electric scooters have much fewer moving parts in the drivetrain and wear and tear of consumables like its brake pads will be of greater concern.

We were also privy to some more information on the Chetak and what lies in store. Firstly, it was announced that the price of the Chetak will be announced in January when the company begins to accept bookings for the new e-scooter. We were also informed that KTM/Husqvarna are working with Bajaj to develop a high-performance electric scooter and we could see the Chetak being used as the base platform for this model.

Yes, read this in the news yesterday. When translated into plain English, this means Chetak is a low performance scooter for which Bajaj wants to charge a premium because many Indians are emotional about the word "Chetak"

Bajaj's event reminder videos are out on Social Media. When I saw "Be at 1 with the future" I thought they are trying to say that the event will start at 1 PM in a stylish way (sounding like 'Be one with the future') but the countdown timer shows that the event starts at 12 noon. So it is a typo

I think they are referring to the 1 day left for the unveil of the scooter not the time.

The first image reads as "BEAT 1 WITH THE FUTURE"! A bit more space between the two words BE and AT would have made things a lot clearer and in line with what they intended in the first place. How do these posters get approved without anyone noticing such simple things?
