It was a Prudent and Wise Decision according to me. Post Honda break up, Hero had the following options

(1) Direct its total focus and resources (manower & money) on making sure that its Behemoth Business of producing commuter motorcycles continued

(2) Direct focus on the "Commuter Plus" offering like Xtreme, Karizma and run the risk of losing its ground in the 100-125 cc commuter space

(3) Give equal focus to both the "Commuter" and the "Commuter Plus" segments.. but run risk of losing ground in Both.

Hero seems to have opted for the First Option for the Time Bieing, and so far BUSINESS has been Ok.

Sure

But businesses are out there to earn the moolah and not to win hearts.

Re: Rumour: Hero Karizma discontinued

RIP Karizma.

While i never owned one, had the privilege to taking delivery of 2 karizmas' off the showroom in 2005 , as the owners were not confident of riding it off the showroom. :-)

While, i didnt have a two wheeler at that time, had done some real good rides in Karizma as my friends were generous enough to lend me the beast.

I still recall the ride on NICE Road, Bangalore, which was still under construction at that time, had a straight open stretch, where i tested its throttle to the best- the best ride i ever had in a two wheeler.
...And i had a friend who was so fond of it that she got on it as a pillion rider, just because I was on a Karizma :-).

Anyways, the legacy was long lost, when Hero did the worst in its new avatar.

Well, they have launched a new Xtreme 160R

Coming back to Karizma, a friend had lent it to me for some days when my Avenger was stolen in 2012 for daily commute.

And I liked the way it rode which was quite different from the Avenger and understandably so.

Overall a lost opportunity by Hero!

Re: Rumour: Hero Karizma discontinued

Sad to see her discontinued. Maybe good before she is more ruined with a facelift. My first ever motorcycle to own. My dad wanted to buy a bike for myself. I had to please him one long year to stretch his budget from a Splendor to Karizma. Brought her home on August 11 2010, still looks great. She has just done close to 20k kilometres.

Here is one of my favourite pictures of her.

Probably the best sports tourer our country has seen.

Here's mine when it was spanking new.

Rumour: Hero Karizma discontinued-kalbhavi-road.jpg

I was extremely unfortunate that I had to part with it. Me thinks I had got a lemon. Every year the crankshaft and the pistons were replaced under warranty. On nearing completion of 5th year, I sold it of out of fear as the engine warranty would be over.

I still remember commuting to office from Belgaum - Haveri - Belgaum (340 kms) everyday for almost 10 days in 2015. Don't think I would have done this on any other bike.
