Re: The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!

A couple of months back, around August to be exact, a couple of close friends and I decided we would do a soft enduro trip to Anshi National Park yonder of Dandeli.

The first rendezvous point would be a friend's farm at Sankeshwar, which is about 500/600 kms from Bangalore. I would leave a day earlier and chill at the farm whilst the two others would join me there the next day to begin the trip. We were two 390 Adventures, and 2 Verses 650's.

Enroute on the Bangalore-Pune Highway

Re: The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!

The next day was when we started from Sankeshwar towards Anshi. I don't have any photos of the enduro bit, because we were all just struggling to stay alive.

On a trip like this which was some percentage drone ways, a good percentage single lane, some mountain roads, and finally treacherous enduro on non existent terrain - the KTM 390 Adventure was a slam dunk.

Not exactly stock, but @torqueblock on Instagram has Timsun TS837 available in 110/80-19 and 140/80-17

They are very prompt in delivering and I found their service to be excellent.

The carbon racing screen looks nice. The execution of it for the Adventure 390 looks a lot more neat than what it was for the Interceptor. Where did you source the yellow screen for your headlights? I assume it is to make the LEDs more usable in the fog. Am I right?

KTM & MRF have conveniently forgotten about poor souls like me who started with Metz but are now in a desperate need to switch over to MRFs as Metz have vanished from the market OR are available at absurd prices
This is a repeat of the same debacle that the original R15 owners faced in 2010 - 11. The only way out is to scour the interwebs for the contact details of MRF distributors and try to get hold of new tires when it reaches them. Or else it will get sold out as soon as the limited stocks hit the retail channels. Maybe a few of you owners can group up and place a combined order, that can make things easier.

MRF always seems to underestimate the demand from low selling bikes, they are happy with churning out tires for the Hondas and Pulsars and Royal Enfields of our market.

Yes sherlock, your deductions are accurate lol. It also helps in the dark, the spread seems better. Its from a team called Adventure Conquest.

Re: The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!

Wanted a bigger windscreen for the 390 and the carbon racing one was not out by then. Just happened to come across this video and ended up ordering it on a whim.

It cost about 2k, including shipping and the fitment was a breeze. For now I have put it on the lower setting, and it does a good job of scooping the air over my helmet ( I am 5' 11" in height with a 32 inch inseam.

I was skeptical about the way the windscreen fitment was made to fit the bottom brackets of the stock visor frame, since it was just a weighted metal plate which partially goes into the bottom plastic brackets. I went for a short ride to Gunjur lake with some off road sections and the windscreen bottom fitments are holding on to the bottom bracket, inspite of some harsh and bumpy ride.

Posting some picture of the windscreen.

Re: The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!

Heres a friend's 390 adventure going downhill on a steep offroad trail. Honestly i would have liked more grunt lower down the rev range like the Himalayan, the 390 just gallops down the hill like its been let loose. Quite unnerving.

Picking up the 390 adventure all by yourself on a downhill track is easier said than done.

Hit the Kill Switch and use the clutch as rear brake.

haha...i did that liberally on the first gen Duke 390. That animal had no engine braking at all, both the bike and my pants slid all the way down

Brake pads are cheaper than clutch plates, no?

I think, as someone mentioned in the Xpulse 200 thread, that the super short first gear in the Xpulse 200 seems to be designed for such steep downhills as well.
Frankly speaking, these adventure bikes don't seem to be the right tool to tackle such trails where an enduro bike makes more sense.

Engine braking with engine killed is the best way. You should never touch the brakes but easier said than done, primal fear takes over and kaboom

Thats right unfortunately we dont know what the trail is like until we get there and then we are too manly to turn back

A lot of people ask me if am dumb to be doing all this on the 390 adventure. A big reason why i do this is fun. The other reason is when i go cross country and explore trails or even mainstream routes through villages, atleast the mental fear of will the bike or me do this is out of the equation. Muscle memory from prior offroad trails will kick in and it wont be so bad. Might even enjoy it

Don't say that! My heart can't bear it.

I feel like I'm missing some context here though.
