Superb. Thanks for sharing, I am going to try this one. I have researched a lot on the aftermarket crash bars and none seem to make sense for me! Could you please share the link?

I can attest to this since I ride Helix's bike .

Were the vibrations present before you changed the front sprocket to 14T or after the change?

Some owners complained of increased vibes from the engine after switching to the 14T. Apparently the less vibey upgrade is the 47T rear sprocket. RK Takasago has a 15/47 chain set which fits the adv 390.

I have not personally changed the sprockets but this is all owner feedback which I shared.

Hi All,

Anyone using double take or Ram tough mirrors on their adv 390. Want to know how do they hold up at speeds above 80. I have tried stock, husky, Apache and Primo Custom mirrors but all of them vibrate like crazy after 80kmph.

Mine is a bs4 390 duke,
Mirrors and vibration dont go so well on the 390. What i have done is, made rubber washers from my workplace and used them as cushions for the handlebar mounts tried a few combinations and came to the conclusion of using cushion and a metal washer at the top and bottom of the handlebar mounts. Handle bar is higher by about 6mm and i am using dominar allen bolts which is a direct fit for the ktm (costs 90rs for both). You can find such rubber washers from auto parts store.

Mirrors dont vibrate much from idle to 4000rpm visibility is ok. 4 to 6 there is some buss and things do get blurry, it depends what revs you maintain i found that at 5500rpm its more bussy but its not as bad as before. And this is the best part there is no buss whatsoever from 6 to red line about 10. I can now ride my bike at 8000rpm and feel nothing in the handle bar.

Drawbacks, this cushion is plush so everytime i break or accelerate hard i can feel the handle bar move a bit. Initially it was something i used to notice but now i have gotten used to it. This is definitely a mod that i will keep in the bike, till the time, if at all i find a better alternative.

Re: The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!

After enjoying my 2016 KTM Duke 200 for 8.5 years, the itch to upgrade to a bigger bike finally hit me. I wanted to stay loyal to KTM, so the options were clear: the RC390 or the Adventure 390.

The RC390 was ruled out due to its aggressive riding position and pillion discomfort, leaving the Adventure 390 as my top contender. Initially, I thought of getting a brand-new bike but decided to keep my Duke 200 for city rides and look for a pre-owned Adventure 390 for weekend getaways, some off-roading and long distance rides. After all, my Duke is still in pristine condition after all these years!

The search began on platforms like Olx, Facebook, and BikeDekho. Finally, I found a 2021 Adventure 390 in my favorite orange color with only 14k km on the clock. Reached out to the seller, who, as luck would have it, turned out to be a fellow Bhpian (@joelabreo227)

After some quick chats, we scheduled an inspection. We connected instantly, and he patiently shared his ownership experience and answered all my questions about the bike and variants etc.

I did a quick inspection and test ride, and the bike was in excellent condition. Within a couple of days, we finalized the deal. Getting the bike from fellow Bhpian was a big confidence booster and a crucial factor in this whole purchase. The handover was delayed due to the ongoing pitru-paksha, but I finally took delivery on the auspicious occasion of Navaratri.

First Impressions After 150+ Kms (City + Highway):

Dimensions:
The Adventure 390 is big, tall, and a bit heavy, but the transition is smooth for a 5'11" rider like me. Seat height is a non issue for me. Despite its size, the turning radius is surprisingly manageable. You can maneuver in tight spots.

Rider Comfort:
The wide handlebar and big seat make for a comfortable ride. My wife, who avoided rides on the Duke, immediately approved the pillion seat on the Adventure 390.

Engine: The engine pulls beautifully above 5k RPM—exactly what you expect from KTM. I haven’t faced any low-rev issues that others have reported so far, although the 1st and 2nd gears need some work in city traffic.

Suspension: This is the bike’s standout feature! The suspension handles bad roads with ease, sending zero vibrations to the rider. Even my wife noticed how smooth the ride was.

Tyres: The bike still has Metzeler Tourance tyres. The front tyre has around 5k kms left, and the rear has about 2k kms. I’m still adjusting to the lean angle, as I’m not as confident leaning in as I was with my Duke, but I’m sure that’ll come with time.

Electronics: The bike is loaded with tech. The full-color display is crisp and gives it a premium feel.

A big shoutout to @joelabreo227 for maintaining his machine really well and for making this dream purchase a smooth experience and, more importantly, for becoming a lifelong friend in the process! Three cheers for TBhp family!!

I'm really very happy to join the Adventure 390 family.

Re: The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!

Need some help with Adv 390 as I'm still getting familiar with this machine.
1. The owner manual says it has automatic cancelling turn signals. However its not working on my bike. Any idea?
2. On my Duke 200, it shows the current ride statistics (Driving time, Avg speed, Fuel Efficiency etc.) by default. This is in addition to Trip 1 & 2 settings. This default display is really useful instead of resetting Trip meter every time. Is such feature available on Adv?

Thanks in advance.

1. No, there’s no such feature.
2. What do you mean resetting trip meter each time? You know you can map the Up or Down arrow key to display the trip meter (A or B) quickly, right?

Thanks for your reply.
What I meant, Duke 200 has a feature which shows the current ride details (Avg speed, Avg time, FE) by default the moment you start riding. These numbers will stay active only for the current ride and gets reset if the engine is off for more than 30 mins. Resetting Trip 1 or 2 is always an option however it's an extra step to remember.

Forgot to mention few things in my initial post.

Braking: Engine breaking is really powerful. Front brake - just loved it. It has a nice bite and very predictable. Rear brake is spongy and average. However using both brakes result in good stopping power.

NVH:
The engine noise is okay and nothing to complain. Exhaust note has a low bass and it feels as if overall exhaust note is suppressed. Vibrations is a much talked subject on this thread. Having used older KTM, I found Adv much better in terms of handling vibrations. The ride quality is very nice and comfortable. While the bike may not be termed as smooth but it does the job well. I experienced great deal of comfort as the suspension and big seat does the job really well. Foot pegs vibrations are prominent when I'm at low speed with higher gear and trying to give more throttle input.

One major downside is the headlamp assembly vibration. On bad roads, the entire assembly shake vigorously. So not sure what would happens during pure off-roading?
Have seen an Adv 390 with a neck brace bracket on youtube. Has anyone installed it? Basically it gives good reinforcement to headlight assembly.

Please do share any comments on this issue.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Got the bike with following accessories installed. All these are good additions and very useful.
  1. Front fork sliders
  2. Zana crash guards
  3. Zana Handle bar risers (angled type)
  4. GPS mount with Bobo mobile holder (model BM3)
  5. Bar grips - Grip Puppy
  6. FuelX Pro (I'm using it at setting 5 for now)

Looks like both the upgraded 390 Adventure and 890 Adventure will be launched this year.

Middle weight ADV category is heating up!

Re: The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!

Just finished my first ride recently and had a fantastic time exploring the handling and comfort!

Got some surprising fuel efficiency (FE) numbers worth sharing:
  • On the outbound ride, I kept a steady pace between 60-80 km/h with smooth throttle inputs, and achieved 43 km/l.
  • On the return, I pushed the pace a bit, reaching speeds up to 120 km/h and experimenting with different RPM ranges. This brought the average FE down to 38.3 km/l.
All in all, an enjoyable ride with some interesting fuel insights!

Has anyone seen such numbers?

Below are some approximate FE numbers I have consistently seen on my 390 Adv (MID indicated) with regular petrol. Tank-to-tank is about 1.5 kmpl lower than MID number.
  • Cruising mostly at 80 kmph in 5th gear - 35 kmpl
  • Cruising mostly at 100 kmph in 6th gear - 30 kmpl
  • Cruising mostly at 110 kmph in 6th gear - 29 kmpl
  • Cruising mostly at 120 kmph in 6th gear - 27 kmpl
  • Mild-moderate city traffic that allows riding around 50-70 kmph in 3rd and 4th gear for some time: 27 kmpl
  • Heavy city traffic with slow speeds and lots of clutch use: 24-26 kmpl
  • Mild-moderate offroading with a lot of time spent in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear with frequent high revs: 21-23 kmpl
My average tank-to-tank FE is 26.5 kmpl and I have fun on the bike! No control over my right wrist. Also, I have heard from multiple sources that revmatching and downshifts with quickshifter reduces FE by 5-10%. I haven't bothered to check and use quickshifter or revmatch downshift frequently.

Thanks. Those are some serious figures. Will act as a benchmark for my full tank-to-tank test. Will share a validation once I perform a fuel efficiency test.

Re: The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!

Has anyone gone back to the stock engine bars from the Zana crash guards?
If so, have the vibrations reduced?
I’ve got Zana crash guards and their bar risers and the vibes seem to have increased quite a bit!
