Indian automakers could export unsold BS4 stock

According to a media report, Indian automakers might export their unsold BS4 stock to Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and Africa.

Exporting 2-wheelers to neighbouring countries is said to be easier than passenger cars or commercial vehicles, as the specifications, emissions and safety standards are similar.

Sale of BS4 vehicles will be stopped in India from April 1, 2020 and some dealerships still have unsold inventory. Besides this, sales have dried up due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is hearing a plea filed Hero MotoCorp and FADA seeking an extension to the March 31, 2020 deadline.

Re: Indian automakers could export unsold BS4 stock

Just saw this news that Supreme Court extended the BS4 vehicle sale by 10 days from end of lockdown period link .

It will give some respite to the dealers and it may fetch some sweet deals to buyers.

So they need to recall all the vehicles from the dealer, make necessary modifications , ship it abroad and then sell it. That is if the product itself exist outside India. Good luck manufacturers.

On the other side court has granted 10 day extension for BS4 sale, when GOI can announce a month long shut down, why only 10 days here? Why should dealers give discount and sell at a loss?

Why not keep this in such a way that any vehicle manufactured within X date and entered in government database for shipment to dealers can be sold within the year? BS4 vehicles are not like the old steam trains belching smoke and making your face black by the end of the trip.

Court`s comments talk about environment, I am not certain if that is the case if we look at contribution of vehicle exhaust to the equation. If they talk about safety, I agree, BS6 has brought in a few more safety features.
