Vespa VXL 149 & SXL 149 BS6 launched

Piaggio has launched the BS6-compliant Vespa VXL 149 and SXL 149 scooters in India. The Vespa VXL 149 is priced at Rs. 1,22,664 and the SXL 149 is priced at Rs. 1,26,650 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The VXL 149 and SXL 149 are the replacement for the VXL 150 and SXL 150. Both scooters are powered by a 149cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine that produces 10.32 BHP @ 7,600 rpm and 10.6 Nm @ 5,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The scooters also come with 3 catalytic converters to reduce emissions.

Both scooters come with alloy wheels. They are equipped with a 200 mm ventilated disc brake at the front and a 140 mm drum brake at the rear and have ABS.

In terms of styling, the SXL 149 gets a slightly different front apron and a rectangular headlamp. It also has rectangular chrome mirrors in place of the circular mirrors that are offered on the VXL 149.

It is believed that the slight reduction in engine capacity from 150cc to 149cc could benefit the customer as the scooters now fall in a lower insurance bracket.

Vespa pricing has always been high as it is a life style product, and not mass production brand.

So what happened to 160cc engine plan? I remember aprillia was planning to launch SXR160 in BS6 avatar. Has this been scrapped? Even the website has no mention of SXR 160.

SXR is supposed to be launched in August 2020. Still a few months away.

Re: Vespa VXL 149 & SXL 149 BS6 launched

I saw a banner in February, outside the Piaggio-Aprilia-Motoguzzi dealership in Ernakulam at Padivattom saying that they offer a discount upto Rs.20,000 on BS4 models. So with the reduced power (from 11.44bhp & 11.5Nm to 10.32bhp & 10.6Nm) and higher cost of vespa 149, I think the ones who bought the BS4 Vespa-150 with the discounts got a very good deal. I know there is the lack of ABS and Fuel Injection ( i am not sure, but i think BS4 versions are carbureted), but given the already cheaper price of BS4 vespa ( by approximately Rs.20,000 ) + the discounts, it makes more sense, atleast to me. If it is possible to register BS4 vehicles now ( due to the pandemic situation ), I think the buyers are better off with BS4 vespa 150

Wow, at this price, I can buy 200-220 cc bikes! An Apache RTR 200 4V with dual channel ABS retails at around the same price. Avenger 220 is cheaper than this! All hail premiumness!

Couldn’t Piaggio provide at the least rear discs and dual channel ABS at this price? Would have been a better offering then.
