Re: Ola Electric acquires Netherlands based e-scooter firm Etergo

I hope Ola will be doing better than Etergo. They were always a cash strapped company. They have been trying to get funding for the last 12-18 months.

Rumour has it they sold to Ola at a substantial loss. Meaning investors and crowd funders are likely to be out of pocket quite a bit.

Re: Ola Electric acquires Netherlands based e-scooter firm Etergo

This is positively true. The battery concept is that you only buy the scooter and a subscription for the battery. Pay per use and swap the discharged ones at the recharging station with a fully charged one and you are on your way. So no waiting at home or office for the bike to charge.

Charging banks will be set up at multiple locations !

This is the best way to earn customer confidence as well as convenience. Its like a petrol powered scooter !

Re: Ola Electric acquires Netherlands based e-scooter firm Etergo

The etergo bv concept with a range of 240km and a removable battery is a much better solution to range anxiety and hassles of charging in a common location parking area.

If they can price this economically, this will be a great alternative to the bevy of electric scooters flooding the market with an average range of around 85 km/charge.

Re: Ola Electric acquires Netherlands based e-scooter firm Etergo

As long as they don't get some cheap Chinese CKD kits and assemble them here, this is good. They should at least manufacture the body as well as parts like lights, suspension, brakes, seat, wheels etc. locally - the battery and motor may not have much of a choice other than being Chinese...

According to a PTI report, Ola electric to launch an electric scooter by Jan 2021. Initially, the scooter will be manufactured in the Netherlands, will be sold in India and Europe. It is expected to be priced competitively against current petrol scooters. As per the sources, Ola is looking at sales of a million e-scooters in the first year.

While they may be able to launch the scooters by January, I doubt if they will be able to sell a million vehicles in the first year, especially before their Indian plant up and running. They are currently in talks with different state governments to setup a 2 million capacity plant. If they can price it around Rs 1 lakh with similar range to Chetak and Ather, they can easily achieve 1 million sales with broader availability across the country in future. Hopefully they does away with Ola branding and use Etergo or some other name.

A million scooters in the first year? How could anyone make such projections with a rational mind? Approximately 1.5 lakh EVs were sold in India in 19-20.

Also, I don't see how this aligns with the core competence of Ola in any way. Hope that the fancy consultants they hired to draft such proposals and projections are not as disconnected from reality as these numbers suggest.

This is a massive push. I wonder if they are thinking about the charging stations also!

Re: Ola Electric acquires Netherlands based e-scooter firm Etergo

Interestingly, they haven't mentioned any exact location in TN.

Hope they price it on par with scooters like Activa 125 or the Ntorq and not go the Ather's way of premium pricing.

Re: Ola Electric acquires Netherlands based e-scooter firm Etergo

Good luck to Ola. Hope this moves beyond announcements to some real action on the ground. Reason i say is Ather is loosing money on every scooter sold and has been in production since 2018. Rumour is about a lac a scooter. Hope Ola can break into this market and be profitable.

Re: Ola Electric acquires Netherlands based e-scooter firm Etergo

This is the best news happening to the Indian EV market, especially the 2 wheeler market. All it needs is one company pushing the volumes. With the premium pricing of 450x, Ather became a niche maker. I really hope Ola Electric becomes very successful with their electric scooters. Along with Bajaj chetak new factory with a 0.5 million capacity, Ather it will push the like Hero, Honda, and TVs to invest in EVs.

Also, I hope Ola Electric keeps the Etergo brand or create a new brand name instead of using Ola branding.
