Segway officially shutting down production on July 15th. The Mumbai police timing could not be worse.

Pretty much all of the IP that Segway had, in terms of processing all the info from the sensors to attain balance is still with Ninebot. Ninebot has a bunch of solid investors, Xiaomi, Shunwei & Sequoia, they are still making Segway/Ninebot branded products. Ninebot is even keep the Segway branding for the self balancing electric transporters. I have a Mi Jia365 scooter.

There was some tiny link to the US workers that is being finally cutoff, and Ninebot/Segway has become a mainstream commodity product. From a $4000 exotic product to a $400 mass produced product, with a whole bunch of other Chinese companies making similar products, and closure/sale of the American company.

Re: Segway to end production on July 15, 2020

Still remember the day in US when there was so much hype about announcement of a product that was going to change transportation
It was underwhelming when it was actually announced in the evening that day.

With the so called ride share scooters still being touted everywhere, Segway is the wrong, expensive way of doing it I guess in the current scenario. Its not that easy, forget about your stance, look here and there and ride kind of thing. Worst part was the owner dying using it :(

Anything less than the magic carpet, will not change transportation for the near future
