re: The Honda H'ness CB350, priced at Rs. 1.90 lakh (page 6)

All the blogs and other media outlets seem to point to the Rebel being a done deal. I hope it is a Rebel 500 instead of a Rebel 300. It's definitely going to be priced at a premium and it may be easier to justify the premium for a 500 cc motor than a 300 cc one

The teaser video:

Only 7 days remaining in the launch but Honda has successfully maintained the secrecy so far. People are still guessing.

Good.

re: The Honda H'ness CB350, priced at Rs. 1.90 lakh (page 6)

It more and more looks like an India specific bike and now has a name - H’NESS! Yikes! I really hope that is not the name for this new premium Honda as they call it. Either way, its not the Rebel 300 or the 500, its the India specific, Royal Enfield rival!

Quote:
It is almost a confirmation – that the 30 September 2020 motorcycle will be called as ‘H’NESS‘ – a short form of Highness!

In reality, Honda wanted the full name ‘Highness’ and it applied for its patent(See pic below). However, it was opposed and Honda had to ditch it. It, then, filed for its version – ‘H’NESS’ which was accepted. H’NESS will be pronounced as Highness

Honda has shared that H’NESS will be launched under the BigWing umbrella which means that it will be positioned as a premium motorcycle.

Checked with my local Honda dealership.. They currently know something is coming but whether it will go to Wings or to all HMSI dealerships is still not yet known. They too are waiting for confirmation

Does the Class :12 mean some thing about the category of the bike . I mean the engine capacity or is it just related to the application

IMO they could very well launch the CB series on the 30th. Could start of with the CB500F along with a adventure CB400SF.

Thanks for sharing. Imagine so much build up, and one puny Rebel 300 enters the frame That's a let down. I really hope for Honda this is a big engine bike.

@motor_spirit: No. We can't know engine capacity via trademark class.

Class 12 Trademark includes vehicles, devices, machines and apparatus for locomotion by land, air or water. This Class also includes motors and engines for land vehicles, as well as couplings, transmission components, and air cushion vehicles.

Honda have managed to maintain great secrecy so far for a launch that's just a few days away. No leaks, no camouflaged test mules, nothing!

This means they have not done extensive testing on public Indian roads to fine tune the product. Of course, they must have tested it enough on their internal test track(s) and those belonging to organisations like VRDE for fine tuning purposes.

Then again, I guess if one is a global two-wheeler giant like Honda with a humongous array of products from mopeds to superbikes and a sizeable, if not dominant presence in almost every market in the world, they can simply afford to utilise all that experience to not test it on public Indian roads. The name H'ness or Highness sounds very stupid though.

Indian manufacturers like Hero, TVS, Bajaj, Royal Enfield and Mahindra/Classic Legends, on the other hand, have to test their products extensively on public roads here. Therefore their camouflaged test mules are spotted way before they hit the market.

To my ears that exhaust note sounds very much like a single cylinder, perhaps undersquare configuration - that eliminates the Honda 500 trio and points to a locally made single cylinder. Honda could have pulled out any old single from their global catalogue a la Yamaha's FZ250

The Hondas in India are usually spotted less on test. They have a track inside the plant replicating most Indian road conditions is what I know. If I am not wrong, the Honda motorcycles have rarely been spotted on test with a camouflage and most have turned out be to quite good even without public testing and this helps them to maintain the secrecy of the machines. Usual spy pics comes out only 2-3 days prior to launch, mostly leaked by Honda themselves, that too rarely.

There are still 5 more days to go, and absolutely no leaks from Honda. So guess there is nothing much to discuss than wait.

Same with Honda cars as well - the test mules are rarely spotted till the launch. The last real exception to this scenario was the 3rd generation City.

The soundtrack doesn't sound anything like a water cooled rebel 300 or 500. There is ample room for speculation here. Honda has a rich heritage going way back, I have often wondered why they couldn't dust off something like the GB500(or even the 400) and release it here in a standard form factor. It looks remarkably similar to the Continental GT. If you saw the YouTube videos the sound track is quite similar to the GB500s'. What could an India specific model be? The CBRs / Rebels are not India specific. As I see it, a largish air/cooled single in a standard/mild cruiser is what would take the battle to RE. No point chasing big power or sport, the masses want street presence, sound track and comfort.

RE surely knows what's coming down the pipe and whatever it is will be squarely aimed at the meteor. RE postponed the meteor launch to October till after the Honda launch, there is something RE knows that we obviously dont. Just speculation on my part, I am betting it's an air/oil cooled single to give it a shot at affordability. Yamaha and Suzuki have already embarked on this approach with their air/oil cooled 250s.

True. Sounded more like a single to me. Didn't comment on nature of the sound since that really depends on the quality of their mic and listening device.
