Suzuki Burgman-based electric scooter spied

A prototype of a Suzuki Burgman Street based electric scooter has been caught testing.

Suzuki Burgman-based electric scooter spied-suzukiburgmanelectricscooterspied1600x450.jpg

At first glance, it looks like a regular Burgman Street as the body work is similar to the petrol-powered scooter. However, it does not have the side-mounted exhaust - a telltale sign of an electric scooter. The front suspension is also different. The shock absorber is positioned on the right side, whereas on the petrol version, it is on the left side of the wheel.

Specifications of the electric motor and the battery are not yet known. However, given the fact that it will compete with the likes of the Ather 450, TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak, we can expect similar levels of performance.

At present, the Burgman Street is offered with a 124cc, single-cylinder engine that produces 8.6 BHP @ 6,750 rpm and 10 Nm @ 5,500 rpm. It was recently updated with new features including turn-by-turn navigation, overspeed warning and last parked location.

The major noticeable difference is the dual shock absorbers as against the monoshocks in the the ICE Burgmann. Looks like this is also being done similar to Chetak where the fuel tank is swapped with a battery pack and the engine is replaced with a Motor. Nevertheless I hope the performance matches the size of the Burgmann. EV scooter buyers will slowly get more options which is the best thing about this

Wish they would give 12” inch wheels on both ends in the electric Burgman. Visually it looks so disproportionate with 10” wheel at the rear. It really detracts from the otherwise overall good looks of the scooter, electric or petrol.

Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be the case in the images on this thread.

Cheers

When launched, the Suzuki Burgman electric scooter is likely to compete with the Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube, Ola S1 and the likes.
Am I the only one who is miffed at omission of Ather? Considering the after thought products like Chetak or iQube ahead of the Ather in EV is something that angers me.

Two shocks at the back probably means its using a Hub motor, mostly another Bosch motor.

Looks like they are introducing new 125 CC performance scooter to complete with N torq.

Re: Suzuki Burgman-based electric scooter spied

More …..Per ……, could mean “More Smiles Per Kilometre.” which could be interpreted in two ways. More power, that is a higher capacity internal combustion engine which theoretically makes you smile more or an electric scooter which reduces the cost per kilometre, again theoretically, it makes you smile more due to less damage to your pocket.

Maybe it’s wishful thinking, but the twin shock absorbers at the back could be hinting at a more powerful, heavy petrol engine. The only other scooter we have in the Indian market which has twin shock absorbers is the Yahama Aerox 155.

Let’s see, 18th is only a day away. Even though the whole world is talking about it being an electric scooter, I for one would prefer it being a more powerful petrol engine Burgman Street.

Cheers

I own a Burgman and its a tall scoot as it is (pic above of test rider on tippy toes) and a 12in rear wheel will jack it up a lot more which wont be practical. wider 10in tyres will make it look proportional but I cant find any indian tyre manufacturers offering wider tyres for the diameter. As you may know imported tyres are not happening here in India due to anti-dumping laws.

I doubt its that simple to deduce what kind of motor it may have. There is some plasticky bits on the left side of the rear tyre which is covering the drivetrain. Hub motors dont need a drivetrain.

Could be the cover to hide the thick 3 phase wires for the hub motor and the disc brakes at the back, integrated to the hub motor.
