Pulsar is my favorite bike. I own 2007 Pulsar 180 DTSI model. It's really a good bike with good power, enough mileage ( 35-40 kmpl ), looks great and it's very sturdy bike. At times we have gone 3-4 people on it (1-2 kids) for short distance and there is enough power. Acceleration is excellent and you can really zoom from 30 kmph to 80-100 kmph in no time.

Maintenance wise also its very good and I have hardly spent any money apart from regular servicing costs, that too are very normal. Recent servicing cost was around 1000 Rs only. Very happy till date with the Pulsar and enjoyed it every moment when I drove it.

Memories! Proud ex owner of a red Pulsar 200. I loved that bike and apart from niggles related to electronics it was a great experience. I remember the exhaust note was really good and in my opinion it is the best looking variant of Pulsar.
2 years into the ownership I removed the fairing and painted side scoops white.

17 years old and still going strong. My daily ride since I was in 12th standard way back in 2003.

No niggles faced ever rather than regular servicing and replacement of parts due to wear and tear. The chain sprocket was replaced after 70000 kms along with setup of new block piston.

Was my company for 3 years in Bangalore during my graduation (2004-07) and 2 years (2007-09) in Delhi during my post graduation.

Converted to complete LED setup along with meter bulbs too. Used a capacitor and extra charging regulator to change the AC setup to DC.

Changed the rear tyre to a broader one, the one found on RE classic MRF zapper which has made the ride more stable than before.

Will make sure to keep it in its pristine condition till I exist.

Like many others, I had a vast Pulsar riding experience but honestly I never really liked it. The power was good but the overall riding and ownership experience was below average barring the 135LS. The 135LS was the only Pulsar I enjoyed riding, rest of them had the power but the dynamics and overall fit and finish were very poor. I would pick the CBZ/Karizma/Apaches over the pulsars anyday.

I could have been the first guy to own a pulsar in my college if not for an the over-enthusiastic sales guy in the Bajaj showroom. I had convinced my mom and we had gone to the showroom to see the new bike. Everything was going smooth until that idiot decides to show off and revs the bike like crazy and sound the loud horn inside a 10x10 glass display booth Obviously no mother would have approved that purchase. I still regret thinking about that day.

Pulsar at the launch was having lots of first-in-segment advantage

- Front disk brakes standard across all models (Disk brakes was optional in CBZ)
- Reasonably priced 150 cc (CBZ failed here because of its huge price)
- DTSi – Twin Spark ignition

Also “Definitely Male” campaign helps a lot with its sales. Later when the other brands got caught up with 150cc+ segment, one thing I always felt the pulsar missing was refinement. I don’t have experience with 2014 and above Pulsar models.

I was the proud owner of the following bikes including two pulsars

1991 Rx 100
2002 Pulsar 150 Classic
2004 Pulsar 150 DTSi
2010 Karizma Classic
2014 CBZ Extreme

Among these, below is my rating in the ascending order.

Cost/effort Maintenance: Both Pulsars -> CBZ Extreme -> Rx100 -> Karizma
Fun to Ride: CBZ Extreme -> Pulsar 150 Classic –> Rx100 –> Pulsar 150 DTSi -> Karizma

As I keep scrolling down on the images on the first page I feel the look of bike kept degrading as years went by. The first version of the Pulsar was the best one in terms of design.

I still have the 2005 version of Pulsar. But no one rides it anymore.

I personally never owned a two wheeler however I still remember gifting this 'blue' Pulser 150 DTS-i to my elder brother way back in 2004. It was indeed a 'desirable' machine back then!!

The Pulsars were the benchmark of performance for many years.

The first gen Pulsars were revolutionary and really shook up the market.

I feel Pulsars somewhat have lost their way and don't seem that appealing with performance in mind.

Other brands have updated more often and Bajaj sticker jobs and colour schemes don't hold interest in 2020

I do hope they find their groove again

I had/have the 2003 Pulsar 150. When i bought it, i was among the early ones to have one in Hyderabad, and the bike was a celebrity. It had people flock to admire it at traffic lights, parking lots, and a zillion questions on mileage, cost etc. Owing to budget restrictions, I wasn't able to stretch to get the variant with electric start, so kick start it was.

The bike heralded a sense of freedom for me, from the rigours of public transport, as well as the ability to go on long rides etc. Along with my friend's CBZ we used to do quite a few outings. It also paved the way for me to enter the world of internet groups such as the Bajaj Pulsar Yahoogroup, where i went on rides with a few folks there.

I've had a lot of interesting episodes with it, such as a cop who once flagged me down and asked if he could take it for a quick spin, the skinny stock rear tyre on the bike which skid on braking, and so on. Once while ripping along the highway, i did a silly antic and managed to snap the clutch cable, which left me stranded at 11PM. Getting back home was a different story on its own. I also ended up doing some silly mods on it, such as raising the rear suspension, adding a fibreglass engine guard and the essential rear tyre upgrade with a fatter tyre.

While i had loads of fun with it, the ownership experience wasn't ideal. Being among the early batches, parts reliability wasn't good. Frequent issues included the sprocket getting loose, and so on. While costs for service wasn't much, it was the frequency which added up. At some point it used to sound like a tractor, as my friends would tease me. My friend's CBZ in comparison had higher service costs, but was a lot more reliable.

If i could go back and had to choose again, would i? The answer is YES.
Despite all it's shortcomings, it was a delight even in the 150 format.

I keep hearing tales of Puslars being unreliable but from my experience and understanding it is mostly due to a lack of knowledge from the owners part or just that before 2015(when I got my Pulsar) Bajaj's quality control was just as crappy as Hero/Honda.

Either way, if the zombie apocalypse was coming and I had one Motorcycle to choose it'd definitely be a Bajaj and most probably be a Pulsar.

Cause truth be told I've never before seen a motorcycle blow a plug and yet keep running without breaking a sweat. A quality in a motorcycle that'd serve you well when on the run evading certain death.

This happened to a friend's P220, one of his plugs miserably failed due to a fault on his part yet the motorcycle effortlessly kept running on the remaining plug. There was a little throttle lag during transition but it was so subtle we thought it was a minor air leak.

Coming to mine, she's 60k old and has quite a few oil leaks, some of them older than most fad bikes we see these days. Yet she still does interstate speeds effortlessly, though currently used as a scooter replacement cause I can't really use a gear above 3rd when riding on KL Roads, but when on the interstate she truly does shine.

The reason I don't bother with the oil leaks is cause of the way Bajaj has designed this Motorcycle, with all the cramped hardware, DIY'ing is a pita for someone like myself with large hands, heck! Even setting exhaust tappet clearance took some never before seen dexterity.

Even with a few niggles ignored she isn't prone to breaking down, after all she's a Bajaj, these motorcycles lack even the tiniest bit of finesse but when it comes to hauling ass and taking abuse nothing comes close, and this is coming from someone who has also clocked about the same mileage on the legendary ZMA.

Here's a snap of mine, bought new in 2015, though boring to use compared to my CT100B, she does still pull a few heart strings albeit emotional ones.

I've been told before that my selection lacks taste, but then again all I hear is radio silence when such comments come from low runners.

Thanks. But numbers are numbers and facts are facts. The Bajaj Pulsar completed 19 years and not 20.

Pulsar 180 was my first bike that I bought in 2002 to replace an LML scooter that I had.

I still have the bike with me and am using it as my daily ride. I still enjoy riding this bike.

I took a couple of photos of the bike for this thread last week. The bike will be in its nineteenth year in 2021.

The only issue I have had is trying to find some good tyres in 100/90 X 18" size for the rear tyres.
