Re: November 2020: Two Wheeler Sales Figures & Analysis

I doubt the data relating to CB 350 for the month of October 2020 which is indicating zero dispatches. There were many deliveries during that month. In fact, rushlane has reported 1290 figure as mentioned somewhere else in this forum.

From that figure, CB350 should be topper in the Monthly Gainers list with a gain of 215 per cent (from 1290 to 4067 units).

Since the source of this data hasn't mentioned any figures for Honda CB350 and Meteor 350 for the month of October, I had to put that as 0.

Infact have sent them a message regarding the same to check, awaiting their response so I can edit the charts.

As per the Vahan dashboard,

Ather:
September = 265
October = 258
November = 360
December (as of today) = 398

Revolt:
September = 89
October = 213
November = 456
December (as of today) = 179

Bajaj Chetak (as per this thread):
September = 288
October = 258
November = 264

With broader availability, Ather and Revolt sales are increasing. Chetak is not far behind but seems production constrained. Sadly, all these numbers are very low for 2-wheelers. Nexon EV is doing similar numbers to these EV 2-wheelers.

It will be interesting to if Ather can grow sales with sales starting in many cities in the next few months or will remain a niche because of the huge price increase.

Re: November 2020: Two Wheeler Sales Figures & Analysis

a4anurag, thanks for sharing this months numbers as well. The MoM change by model is an excellent addition and makes sifting through the data very easy now.

I was expecting Novembers dispatch numbers to be low. The festive season (October) had obviously helped dispatches and sales shoot up in the previous month, so November's dispatches would help in averaging things out before Decembers traditionally lower dispatches swung things the other way. But the amount by which manufacturers have reduced their dispatches in November is alarming, its a bloodbath. Motorcycle dispatches have been hammered.

Im trying to look at the few silver linings but there isnt much to be honest
- Bajaj : KTM Adv 250 numbers have propped up the Duke 250 figures. Given the poor feedback from journalists, I wonder how the market will react to it over 3 - 6 months.
- Honda : The Activa held strong and the Hornet seems to have had a promising start.
- Kawasaki : The Z900 had some really good numbers, given that Kawasaki has announced a price hike in January, they should be able to sell all these bikes before that.
- Royal Enfield : Early days for the Meteor, but production wise, the company usually has a slow December. The numbers from Jan - Mar will be very interesting. Production of the Himalayan is also rumoured to be a bit slow and waiting periods are high.
- Triumph : 14 Rocket III Roadsters in this economic climate is quite a feat indeed. Dealers will be happy.
- TVS : Apache numbers going up might be from the updated versions. Hope it results in more sales for the company, they are really bringing a long feature list to the 200cc and below segments.
- Yamaha : MT15 sales keep increasing despite the proximity to the R15. Maybe Yamaha was right after all?

It will be a hard sell at 2.9 lacs in Gurgaon. Bangalore/ Mumbai on the road would be above 3 lacs. Good luck selling it KTM, it will be a sales dud for sure. KTM and BMW are running in opposite directions. One is jacking up prices, another has worked to bring them down. I would pick 310GS over it anyday.

The Adv 250 costs Rs 3.3L in Cochin. No wonder I am yet to see one on our roads! The KTM Adv 390 is a very hard bike to spot and when you consider that Kerala is KTM country, it makes the reality here even more apparent.

At least the BS6 BMW 310s are occassionally sighted in town.
