Ahh Yamaha out there with new paint cans and sticker set.

P.S. Fire the designer (and management) who thought Times New Roman font would look good on a modern naked bike.

I'm so out of sync with the biking world. Is this still the benchmark in the segment? Or what should a prospective customer really be looking at if he wants a blend of performance, mileage, handling and build quality?

I don’t understand what Yamaha is trying to do. They have amazing high capacity bikes on sale abroad but all they launch here are commuter grade motorcycles. Yamaha has failed a lot of times in cracking the commuter segment(SZ-RR,Saluto) but is still shamelessly trying to crack the crowded commuter segment. What started off as a youthful machine is now being sold as a COMMUTER. Please bring the R3 as soon as possible Yamaha!

I only noticed the font when I read your post
Who were the guys who ran the company in 2008-2010 era ? That was when the first gen Fz, R 15, Fazer (based on Fz) hit the market. That catered a lot to the demands back then and was a rage. That kind of thinking needs to make a comeback at Yamaha now.

They know that their bike will sell irrespective of power. And I dont blame them. Our population doesn't want powerful bikes. They want beefy looking ones with chunky tyres and muscular looks even though the bike doesn't have substance (power and a good engine). Ever since RD 350 failed in India and RX's got phased out due to emission norms, it seems like Yamaha has taken an oath to not give powerful bikes to Indians who they know will crash and burn on them. It's evident from the way our people ride R15.

Purely from 'looks' perspective this is one bike that has gone from WOW to MEH to EWW over the years. And this green colored one with light brown seat and chrome on tank shrouds looks ultra-tacky

Not that in sync with bikes either (who cares about the options available in the market when you haven't gone out for a ride in almost an year).

From wasting time on YouTube though I would say the RTR 160 4v is probably the best one in this segment.
