Just saying.
This does not come under gender discrimination, there are many wrong things in our society, women are not treated equal to men, a girl child and boy child are not raised as equals in our society, respect and equality are not taught to our children. Some jobs are specifically reserved for men (especially in manufacturing, courier delivery, taxis etc), unless you make right in every field, giving 100% jobs in a single factory is not a favour to women.

A family will have a bright future if a women is given work, sometimes men( not generalizing, things can happen both sides) waste money for drinking where the whole family collapses.

Today, for the first time (in almost 7-8years) our amazon delivery was done by a women, hope to see more such jobs are taken by women.

This is 100% gender discrimination. Though this may be acceptable at the moment due to historical discrimination against women.

You cannot fight an ill by creating another ill. Like if your house has been robbed gives you no right to rob others. You fight gender discrimination by removing gender discrimination not by creating a new one.

Re: Ola's made-in-India Electric scooter, now launched at Rs. 99,999

Hi,

Can’t believe this good step is being trolled. I believe on a social front this company will score top marks. Women empowerment is still a big thing in India. Look at all big IT companies, they are still struggling to achieve even 30% women workforce. So much for gender equality.

There is a buzz word in finance world, ESG, which is basically a report card of how an organisation is scoring on 3 fronts of environment, social and governance. I think Ola has scored very well in E and S part. Also to ponder is that Ola is expected to list itself somewhere next year and this will just bump up their valuations positively.

Re: Ola's made-in-India Electric scooter, now launched at Rs. 99,999

I believe unless the men, the children see more women going to work on scooters or on RTC buses every morning, more women wearing factory dresses, more women delivering our parcels, more women as taxi and auto drivers, we will not see any gender equality in the society, no matter how much we discuss here.

I have seen women bus drivers in western countries, haven't seen one in India, I see discrimination here, will we stop riding on buses.

If OLA could find 10,000 women employees, how many manufacturing jobs does big auto have for women, will we stop buying cars, if women employment is less than say 20% in a particular company.

For example, my google search found that Hyundai overseas employs in 1:8 ratio, I am sure this ratio will be far less for Hyundai India, will we stop buying Hyundai cars now, don't simply say Hyundai gave equal opportunity, we should identify the problem. The trained women at OLA can remove gender discrimination in many other companies.

We restrict the women with child bearing, raising activities, and we complain women are not taking up jobs even after given equal opportunity.

Re: Ola's made-in-India Electric scooter, now launched at Rs. 99,999

Don't care if they employ all women (though honestly I don't agree with the practise of trying to end discrimination against one gender by discriminating against the other gender), at least not enough to boycott the company.

However, from Ola's viewpoint this might be more of a move to cut operational costs. Afterall, remuneration for women is significantly less than their male counterparts for the same jobs in many fields.

Hope this is not such a cheap trick from Ola (Employ all women, get praised on Social Media by all for being woke while under paying them behind the scenes).

If they are really progressive they should ensure these female employees are compensated on par with their male counterparts.

I had never thought of it from this angle, but now that you mentioned it, there can be a lot to what you said. I do hope the Ola goes to the next step and announces that the compensation packages for the women employed in their factory, would be the same as that of any other (read male) employees. Now that will be something for them to boast about!

Is this simply anecdotal thought or can you prove auto manufacturers underpay women in comparison to their male counterparts? While the gender pay gap exists globally, in India it's illegal for employers to underpay women doing the same job.

Enfield, Bajaj, TVS are other two wheeler manufacturers who have been increasingly hiring women. Enfield's newest engine assembly line is staffed entirely by women. The advantages of hiring women employees in manufacturing include lesser attrition, increased quality focus, less prone to unionisation, better productivity etc.

Precisely why women are also being preferred by other manufacturing sectors like electronics. From an employers perspective it's easier to manage staff requirements when dealing with an all female crew as well as create a supportive & safer work environment.

Whether this sort of reservation/discrimination is right or wrong is a different discussion altogether.

Its quite easy to see pay discrimination exists almost in all places. A female construction worker gets less than male worker. A female player in almost every sport makes less than a male player. In agriculture it is quite stark. Females work for far far less, sometimes just for some grains. You really do not need no proof. Pay discrimination is real.

Re: Ola's made-in-India Electric scooter, now launched at Rs. 99,999

Is this company ola is interested more in women empowerment or interested in building world class scooter for use in India.

Which one is their goal?
There are tons of factories in garments sector around Bangalore and hire over 90% women. Men are hired only for difficult and heavy works.

What is the point in these things? In Bangalore, almost all software companies, there is only talent search and no gender decrimination.

Bottom line, I think India has moved on from these type of announcements.

Not in the manufacturing sector where women are approximately only 15% of the workforce. It's counterproductive for the govt. to keep pushing the manufacturing sector to employ more people but for half the population to be generally ignored during the hiring process.

Re: Ola's made-in-India Electric scooter, now launched at Rs. 99,999

Maharashtra EV Policy is finally live & I am happy it happened before Ola has started the bookings. Ather has already announced a price cut for the 450. At approx 80-82k on-road Ola S1 is a very sweet deal.

Just hoping Ola implements the price cut asap.

Mod Note: The female employees at the factory & gender discrimination have been discussed enough. Now, let's move on and talk about the actual scooter. Please don't bring it up again, else we will be forced to restrict you from posting on this thread.

Thanks for the support & understanding
